In line with the fleet assessment, the on-campus Print Centre
has undergone a makeover. The first milestone of the re-vamp
was having the Centre be certified by Forest Stewards Council
(FSC). The certification means paper used in the Print Centre
comes from a certified forest that practices responsible
forestry. Having a document certified by FSC is not mandatory,
but it
is strongly recommended. Consumers are increasingly aware
of the FSC symbol and what it means. For more information about
having one of your print projects FSC certified, contact
Glenn
Desmond (xerox@nsac.ca) or Sarah Morris (smorris@nsac.ca).
On the power side, the newly installed machines and equipment
use half the electricity when not in use as the previous ones.
All of the new machines also meet the rigorous 2007 ENERGY
STAR standards set by the EPA.
But we didn’t stop there. The Print Centre machines
use Xerox’s EA Toner, a more environmentally friendly
toner that is grown rather than ground like traditional toner.
EA Toner takes 40 per cent less energy to produce and it prints
50 per cent more documents.
The Print Centre will also be providing users with a statement
of how their choice to use the Centre has contributed to a
smaller eco-footprint for the institution.
