Pet Policy
For reason of health and safety, pets cannot normally be accommodated in the residences. Each Residence Council is responsible for registering and supervising pets in residence. Where the Council fails to do this, the privilege will be withdrawn. Following is the Pet Policy:
These rules were made so that we could keep pets in residence. If they are abused in any way, this privilege will be taken away from all of us!
- Only caged animals will be allowed. The animal must have a cage and must be kept in the room of the owner at all times. Each student may have only one cage or aquarium. Animal breeding is not permitted.
- No large animals, nothing larger than a guinea pig is allowed. More specifically, no cats, dogs, rabbits (including dwarf rabbits), skunks, ferrets, snakes, spiders or any other animal that is not deemed suitable, at the discretion of House Council Animal Care Committee and Residence Don.
- Because birds are notoriously noisy, no birds will be allowed in residence.
- Removal of the animal at any time is at the discretion of the House Council Animal Care Committee and Residence Don.
- No large cages or aquariums. Aquariums must be no larger than 2'x1'x1' and cages no larger than 2'x2'x1'.
- The cage/aquarium must be kept clean. If there are complaints of smell or flies or any condition that is not healthy to the animal or the people living around it, the animal will have to be removed. It is the owner's responsibility to keep their animal clean and quiet. If they cannot handle this responsibility, they will not be allowed to keep a pet in residence. Owners are responsible for all costs related to removal/clean up and all infractions.
- If the animal is noisy or is causing some sort of a problem, the animal will have to be removed.
- Each case will be looked at fairly and separately from other cases. There must be a valid reason for an animal having to be removed.
- Before an animal can stay in residence, House Council Animal Care Committee and Residence Don must know what the pet is, and what the cage is like, to see if it is appropriate. A form must be signed, so that some record of the pet can be kept. The form also is an agreement on the part of the owner to follow the rules.
