Opening Day
Welcome to the organized confusion of opening day in residence. You should have received your room assignment, indicating which residence you will be living in. If you forget, when you arrive, just ask the security officers outside the residence complex. They will have a list and can direct you to the correct building.
You should proceed to the front door of your building where you will be greeted by an excited group of orientation leaders prepared to help you get settled into your room. They will direct you to a member of the RA team (identified by their shirts) who will take you to your room ask you to sign a check in form that outlines the condition of your room. After this you will be directed to first floor and sign out your keys. You will receive one front door key to your building and a key to your room. Mail box keys can be signed out at the mail room in the ground floor of Cumming Hall.
Once you have your key, you can start moving your luggage in with the assistance of your orientation leaders. For the safety and security of all students in residence, you are not permitted to give your keys to anyone else.
You are asked to have your car moved around to the back of Chapman House once it is empty to allow other students easy access when moving in.
There is a lot going on opening day and you should consult your orientation schedule to ensure you do not miss anything.
Don’t forget to buy your Orientation Package and to invite your parents to participate in events designed for them.
This day is all about you, our first year students. Take advantage of the orientation events to get acquainted with other students and have fun.
