Facilities
NSAC has three residences, housing a total of approximately 350 students. Trueman House, constructed in 1957, has beds for approximately 100 students. Fraser House, constructed in 1970 and Chapman House, constructed in 1967, each has beds for approximately 130 students. All residences provide living in a co-educational community.
Each student room is equipped with a bed, closet, mattress,
drapes, pillow, desk, desk chair and connectivity for local
phone, cable TV and high speed internet services (bed linens/blanket
on request). The rooms are comfortable, but space is limited.
Students should bring personal items, but not extra furniture.
Sound systems are not recommended, as they
can easily disturb others in the section. If you decide
to bring any amplified sound system, be sure to bring head
phones and be prepared to play the system at a low
volume only. Wireless internet service is provided
in all three reside4nce buildings.
Each residence has a central lounge where students can relax. In lounges, cable TV is provided by the Students’ Union and the House Councils provide the TVs. Equipment and games for the lounges and games rooms are also provided by the House Council. Kitchenettes, for light snack preparation, are located on the ground level of Fraser and Chapman.
A modern laundry facility is provided in the ground level of each residence. The student laundry fee allows residence students unlimited use of the laundry facilities.
Students receive their mail through mail boxes located
in the main foyer of each residence. Mail boxes are assigned
according to your room number. If you change your room,
you will also need to change mail box keys. Mail box keys
can be signed out at the mail room in the ground floor of
Cumming Hall. Mail box keys are to be returned to your RA
during check-out process or to the Mail Room directly. A
$20 fee will be charged for mail box keys not returned by
April 30.
Students living in residence are provided with a meal plan which allows them to eat seven days a week in the main dining hall (Jenkins Hall). Jenkins Hall provides a continuous service from early in the day until late evening. The meal plan provides flexibility to residence students, allowing them to eat as often as they like throughout the day/evening. Should the student become ill, the Campus Nurse or a member of the residence student staff can arrange for food to be brought to them in residence.
Vending machines are located in each residence for the convenience of the occupants.
Washrooms and showers are communal in nature and shared by approximately 20 students per section. Except for those specifically identified as single-sex, all washrooms and showers are co-ed.
