| Describe the research you are conducting?
I am a Masters student and working on plant-pathogen
interaction at the molecular level. My project is titled,
“Do Ascophyllum nodosum extracts impart
disease resistance in Arabidopsis thaliana.
Who is your supervisor? What has your experience
been with him/her?
Prof. Bruce A. Gray and Dr. Balakrishnan Prithiviraj
are my supervisors and Prof. Rudra P. Singh is my committee
member. I am in one of the best groups at NSAC.
Did you do your undergraduate degree at NSAC?
If not, where did you do your undergraduate degree?
I am from India and obtained my undergraduate degree
from MES College, Bangalore University. I also have a
M.Sc. in Botany with Cytogenetics as my specialization
from Bangalore University and M.Tech from Indian Institute
of Technology, Kharagpur, India.
Why did you decide to pursue graduate studies?
I came to NSAC to pursue a doctoral program. If all goes
well, and I get funding, I shall certainly pursue. I am
still in a decision turmoil.
How did you hear about NSAC?
I heard about it from the NSAC Website.
What do you like the best about NSAC?
It is located in a very quiet locale and I like this
ambience.
What is something interesting you have learned
or experienced since you’ve arrived at NSAC?
Many of the faculty members are a lot friendlier than
I have experienced throughout my academics.
What do you hope to do when you finish your program?
If you are already finished, what are you doing now?
I still have a long way to go before I complete the program.
I would ideally try getting a job as soon as I complete
the program. However, I’m not ready to plan anything
now.
If you could tell someone considering graduate
studies at NSAC a reason for coming here, what would it
be?
If anyone is interested in doing good research-based
projects, I suggest they explore opportunities at NSAC.
How has the graduate program at NSAC prepared
you for your future endeavours/career? What skills did
you acquire during your graduate program?
I am getting exposed to the way of life in Canada. NSAC
has helped me update my skills in current research and
some state of the art techniques in molecular biology.
What is the greatest strength of the graduate
program at NSAC?
My committee lets me work at my pace and I receive very
useful feedback so that I stay focused.
* Nova Scotia Agricultural College awards several
differential fee waivers to international students admitted
to the M.Sc. program. Non-Canadian students are required
to pay an additional differential fee on top of regular
tuition fees. Differential fee waivers are available to
students in their first year of the program only. Academic
Departments award the differential fee waivers based on
academic merit and financial need.
