Tutoring & Disability Services
Tutoring
Need a little extra help in a course or for a test? Why not
get it from students who’ve already taken the course?
And the best part, it's courtesy of Student Services!
Students who are not achieving a mark in any course that they
deem is satisfactory may seek out the assistance of a tutor.
Tutoring can range from help in completing an assignment to
reviewing for an upcoming test. Tutoring sessions can take place
during the day in our Career Services department or at night
whenever and wherever is the most convenient time for you.
If you don’t feel comfortable being tutored in a one
on one session, no problem; group tutoring is just as easy to
arrange. Some students like the ability to “feed off”
other students while others would rather individual tutoring.
Whatever your preference, we can make it happen.
So, if you feel like your mark in a course isn’t up
to par, please don’t hesitate to seek the help of a tutor.
To arrange a tutoring session, please contact the Educational
Support Services Office, located in Student Services.

Disability Services
NSAC is committed to the equitable treatment
of students with disabilities, and provides exceptional services
and support to students with a range of physical and learning
disabilities.
The Nova Scotia Department of Education provides support for
post-secondary students with a permanent learning disability
and/or a physical/mental disability. NSAC students may seek
assistance from a Department Disability Resource Facilitator
located on campus. Documentation (a Psych Ed assessment for
a learning disability; a letter from a doctor if a physical
disability) must be provided with regards to the disability
and its impact on learning. The Disability Resource Facilitator
can assist Canadian students with funding applications for
resources (i.e. Canada Study Grant). Students from other provinces
and countries must apply to their respective home governments
for similar funding. If accepted as a client by the Department
of Education through Nova Scotia Student Loan, such things
as tutoring, note taking, interpreters (for hearing impaired)
and FM systems may be funded.
You can visit the Post-Secondary
Disability Services site
here for Canada Student Loan and Canada Access Grants
for students with Permanent Disabilities.
For information on specific disabilities, and the accommodations
that can be made for students with these disabilities, please
visit the Disability Accommodations
site.
To speak with someone about the disability services available
at NSAC, please contact NSAC's Disability Resource Facilitator.
Educational Support
Services Office
Our Educational Support Services is coordinated
by the Disability Resource Facilitator and is located in the
Dairy Building. For more information about this service, please
contact Mary Anne Lorette.
To be eligible for a Canada Study Grant, students must have
applied to the Student Loan office in their home province and
been awarded at least $1 in CANADA student loan. Student Loan
and Study Grant links are here.
The Disability
Resource Facilitator will help the students fill out the application
form and send it in for them to the correct province.
For students from Nova Scotia they can visit the following
site to learn more about the services provided to residents
while they study in or out of the province/country. http://www.psds.ednet.ns.ca/
