How does this program help?
No worries. In fact, this program is designed to help those
who would like to take some time in making the right decision.
The first year of the program consists of sound basic courses
that introduce practical skills and knowledge with broad application.
The summer work term gives you an opportunity to see what it
will be like to work in the industry and helps in determining
what specialized courses you wish to take in the second year.
If after one year, you should realize that your interests have
changed, you have the option to move into other programs. Many
of the course credits are also degree transferable. Program
advisors will help you in making the right decision.
How is this ‘technology’
program different from a community college technician program?
They’re as different as apples and oranges. Check out
the list of courses, the work experience, and the ability to
move into degree programs. The extra investment in time, effort
and money is worth it. This program provides sound fundamental
courses in Plant Science with three specialization options:
Agronomy, Ornamental Horticulture and Edible Horticulture. Students
have flexibility in course choices, intensive skill oriented
training using state-of-the-art facilities, and nationally and
internationally recognized professors. This program also provides
opportunity to link with industry through work experience which
may potentially lead to career opportunities. There is also
the option to pursue your studies to a degree level, if you
choose to continue at any point in your life.

This program is meant for all ages. Students who are at least
23 years of age and who have been out of high school for at
least five years are considered on an individual basis. A summary
of your academic and employment background is submitted with
your application for admission.

The Plant Science, Agriculture-Agri-Food and Horticulture industry
is a $10 trillion global industry growing at a rate of two percent.
The Canadian agriculture industry alone is a nearly $98 billion
industry. Opportunities exist in many of the sectors listed
above. Furthermore, this program strongly advocates skills,
creativity, innovation and an entrepreneurial approach. It is
training and education for life.
