Animal Facilities
Students in animal-related programs have the opportunity to
gain experience with animals throughout their program. On-campus
animal facilities provide students with modern and program-relevant
hands-on experiences. By integrating teaching and research,
students are able to view and particpate in real-life industry
projects and research.
Poultry
NSAC is currently host to two Poultry units, with facilities
for laying hens, broiler chickens, and a heritage flock.
An exciting new project will soon be underway with
the construction of the Atlantic Canadian
Centre for Poultry Research. For more information about
the Poultry facilities at NSAC please click
here.
Fur
Unit
Three fur species call NSAC home: mink, silver fox and pine

new mink housing units, environmentally enhanced housing for
the pine marten, individual outdoor pens for the foxes and a
feed kitchen and metabolism room. For additional information
about the Fur Unit, please click

Ruminant
Animal Centre
The Ruminant Animal Centre (RAC) is a teaching and research
facility specializing in ruminant animal production. In addition

RAC is also home to dairy cattle and she ep.
- Dairy Cattle NSAC is host to Holstein dairy
cattle living in both tie stall and freestyle housing.

in modern, high-tech labs. Students use equipment in physiology,
nutrition, and genetics labs during projects, research and labs.
Boulden Building
Student studying in
the Animal Health Technology, or upcoming Veterinary Technology,
