PLANT SCIENCE PROGRAMS
Plants add quality, security, colour and wellness to our lives,
more importantly, plants capture the sun's energy and convert
it to food, phytochemicals, fibre and oxygen which makes life
possible on this planet. Plants, both an essential and renewable
resource, must be grown and preserved in and economical and
sustainable manner. To secure the future, we must understand
plants, how they grow in different situations and how they relate
to others for sustainability.
Plant Science programmes at NSAC build on the plant-soil-environment
relationships to include the production, storage and use of
plants as food, medical, nutraceutical and fibre sources and
for ornamental purposes. When you become involved with Plant
Science you will strive to find useful, creative and innovative
solutions to real world problems, at home and abroad, in contributing
to world food security and wellness.

What We Offer

knowledge, work experience and reasoning to foster the practical
art of research and investigation into problems associated with
food security and quality, and wellness.
Degree,
Technology Program, and Graduate
programmes in all aspects of Plant Science, including agronomy,
horticulture and ornamental horticulture, crop physiology, stress
physiology and metabolism, cropping systems, neutraceuticals,
bioactive compounds, and organic crop production.
A 200 hectare College farm, which includes demonstration gardens,
research area, greenhouses, 100 hectares of commercial grain
and forage production and a 14 hectare natural woodlot. Fully
automated plant growth rooms, rhizotrons, tissue and cell culture
laboratories, state of the art physiological and eco-physiological
equipment.
A strong international perspective in both teaching and research
fostered through links with institutions abroad.
A strong entrepreneurial emphasis.
A commitment to sustainable methods of agriculture.
Industry Partnerships in food sectors.

Training Available
The education and training in Plant Science programmes envisions
to provide a pleasant learning environment and experience.
There are three options within the Plant Science:Degree
and Graduate programmes.
These options provide the opportunity to gain knowledge, accrue
practical skills and develop life long learning skills, in the
art, science and business of modern crop production systems,
the Diploma programme is more skills-based while the Degree
option is more knowledge based. All aspects of plant production
technology, propagation, and methods of post harvest are covered,
including plants grown in controlled and protected environments,
landscape and farms.
