Orientation Q&A
By Donald Buchanan B.Sc. (Agr) NSAC Class of ’10
What is Orientation?
Orientation is a week of activities designed to introduce new students to the campus, other students, and to get you pumped for the school year.
When is Orientation?
Orientation Week 2011 at NSAC begins on move in day, Sunday, September 4th and ends on Saturday, September 10th. When other schools are moving to a 1-2 day orientation, NSAC is holding strong at 7 (count ‘em) 7 days!
What is a Frosh Pack?
A Frosh pack is a package made just for you. In the past, they contained memory sticks, cards, coupons, special offers, blankets, lawn chairs, foam cowboy hats, white boards, school supplies, key chains, calendars, agendas, laundry bags, and more!
How do I purchase my Frosh Pack?
Find our booth set up in the horse-shoe on move-in day. Supplies are limited, so get here early.
Can I go to the events if I haven’t bought a frosh pack?
You betcha! The cost of all orientation events have been covered by the school and Students’ Union, so come on out and enjoy it!*******
If I live off campus can I go to Orientation Week?
Of course you can! In fact, we want you there. Consider this your personal invitation to a week of awesome.
What happens during Orientation Week?
You’ll get a chance to meet your fellow new students, get familiar with the campus and staff before returning students show up. You’ll make friends this week that will be with you forever (for real). In fact, a measure of awesome you’ll encounter in this year’s o-week is that we actually found a way to make stacking hay cool.
If I come to Orientation Week am I going to be "froshed" or "hazed?"
I’ll share a little secret with you: University is nothing like TV and the movies try to make it out to be. We don’t have a secret stash of paddles, and you won’t be left on the soccer field wearin’ nothing but your skimpies... I promise you though, that you’ll have your share of fun, but the Students’ Union holds a strong stance against hazing. You have the opportunity to play silly games, maybe get lost in a corn maze. you will get a little dirty in the tug of war, but it’s all in good fun.
What should I wear during Orientation?
Simple answer: it depends. Some events, you’ll wear your every day comfy-casual. Sometimes you’ll wanna wear that old t-shirt you never wanna see again (you know, the one with the torn collar... a mustard stain and a hole in the back). Other times, you’re gonna want to Suit up! Check with your orientation book. If you’re still not sure, just ask your pit crew (O-leaders). As for move-in day, make it casual.
Did I miss something ?
If I missed anything, or you have an odd question, don’t be afraid to ask! I can be contacted through the Student Union Email (su@nsac.ca)
Enjoy the Summer, stay classy, and all the best in September!
