New face on campus
The Research and Graduate Studies (RGS) Office would like to officially welcome Cheryl Paris as our new Research Officer. Cheryl will be responsible for helping researchers manage the financial aspects of hiring research staff, serving as Coordinator for the Animal Care and Use Committee, and maintaining various research project files and general office administrative support duties.
Cheryl is no stranger to the NSAC campus as she previously worked at OACC and most recently in Financial Services.

United Way Book, Movie,Magazine and Games Sale - Donations Needed!
The MacRae Library is seeking donations for the United Way Book sale they’re hosting Monday, November 7th, 2011 from 11 am to 4 pm. Donations are appreciated and all proceeds from the sale are going towards Colchester County’s United Way!
We welcome your donations of second hand books (adult/children/fiction/nonfiction), magazines, DVD’s, puzzles and board games (please ensure that all pieces are included).
Items can be dropped off at the library by Friday, November 4th at 4:30p.m, or you can call Jennifer at 893-4593 to make arrangements for items to be picked up from your office before Wednesday, November 2nd.

It is not too late to send in your healthy tips, recipes and exercises to be entered in the Healthy Workplace Month Draw. There are five prizes:

Results from Athletics
ACAA Cross Country
The ACAA Cross Country Championships were held on Sat Oct 29 on the NSAC Section of the Cobequid Trail. Four ACAA teams and numerous individuals from other ACAA members competed in the final race of the 2011-2012 season. MTA finished first in both men's and women's, while NSAC Mens finished second and NSAC women finished third.
At the awards ceremony following the championship race, champions and individual awards were presented and NSAC 's Coach - Joy Galloway-Jones was selected as ACAA Coach of the Year for Cross-Country.

Jen Bent (in blue) was the top NSAC finisher in the Cross COuntry race held on the weekend.

NSAC Women's and Men's teams competed in the Can-Am Tournament in Auburn , ME on the weekend.

The semi-final game that was scheduled for Sunday Oct 30 at Mount Allison was postponed until tonight. NSAC will be playing MTA tonight (7:30 pm) in Sackville NB in the ACAA semi-final.

Drs. Medema is a senior lecturer at the Dronten University of Applied Sciences (CAH Dronten); NSAC’s Dutch partner in delivering the International Food Business (IFB) program. Drs. Medema’s professional career has focused on development economics, international economic relations, and entrepreneurship. Before joining academia, Drs. Medema worked for several years as a business consultant.
Faculty mobility is a core component of the NSAC-CAH Dronten IFB partnership and each semester IFB faculty travel to their partnering institution to teach. During the week of October 31st, Drs. Medema will be on campus teaching trade, strategic management, growth and succession, intercultural management, and even Dutch language lessons. We are pleased to welcome Drs. Medema to Canada!

Glenn Stratton to retire
Congratulations to Glenn Stratton, who after 31 years at NSAC, will take a well deserved retirement. In recognition of his many years of teaching, service to our campus and the public, the Department of Environmental Sciences invites all faculty, staff, students, colleagues, present, retired or graduated to a celebration of this occasion on November 2nd, 2011 in Cox 220 from 2-4 pm. Refreshments will be served.
Glenn has worked with many people in and outside of NSAC, so please feel free to extend this invitation to others as well.

Interested in Discussing Social Issues?
Join your fellow students, staff and faculty in discussions about a variety of social issues. Explore new perspectives, questions and opinions.
The topic for discussion on Nov 2nd is Stages of Life. The discussion may include a look at acceptance and challenges of different stages of life, or the ‘stories’ we have of what is means to be ‘youth’ and ‘aging’.
Future topics may include mental health or the purpose of education among a long list of options that will be chosen together each week.

Take Your Kids to Work Day
Wednesday, November 2, 2011, is Take Your Kids to Work Day for grade nine students. The Student Recruitment staff would like to host staff who are bringing their grade nine sons or daughters, nieces, nephews, neighbours, etc. and students, to a luncheon. Following the morning in your own work area, we will do a career education program over the lunch hour beginning at 12 noon and then offer the students a campus tour and an activity through the afternoon. The day should wrap up around 3:30 pm.
