NSAC's 106th Convocation
It was a day of celebration for 236 graduates, their families and the university on Friday, May 6th. Congratulations are extended to all of our graduates, our award winners and NSAC alumnus Dr. Dale Ells.

Atlantic Centre of Landscape Excellence
NSAC is excited to partner with its industry stakeholders to develop the Atlantic Centre of Landscape Excellence and deliver a broad spectrum of post- secondary and industry- specific training initiatives.
Innovation in education for the horticulture industry, The Atlantic Centre of Landscape Excellence (ACLE) will be the signature innovation center for landscape horticulture in Atlantic Canada. It will parallel and support NSAC's continued leadership in landscape horticulture training and education. NSAC has always been a vital partner with the landscape horticulture industry, in meeting the growing demand for qualified landscape horticulture professionals.

NSAC will align its education programs and services outcomes with landscape industry certification and specialize in the provincial Red Seal approved Landscape Horticulturalist trade program. This integrated learning environment offers a uniquely efficient combination of theoretical and practical hands on training and testing for both students and industry professionals.
Students and professionals will have streamlined access to Atlantic Canada's accredited educational institution for industry training and certification programs including CHT, CLD and CLP.
Watson Bulb Garden Opening
On May 18th a portion of the NSAC Rock Garden will be dedicated to Jean Watson, a long-time friend and supported of the Rock Garden. The event will being at noon followed by guided tours of the Garden. Keep posted to the Bulletin for more details.

AgZone Comes Back to NSAC
Close to 300 grade eight students will be visiting campus for AgZone May 19th and 20th, 2011.
AgZone, an interactive field trip for 14-year-olds, is an agricultural awareness initiative of the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and NSAC. The race is a fun yet competitive way to get adolescents interested and excited about agriculture.

Fudge will be sold in the Development & External Relations Office- Cumming Hall, Recruitment Office- Rm: 106 Cox Institute and Student Services- Dairy Building. Can't make it to those offices? Tractor Safety Course
There will be a Tractor Safety Course May 9 and 10 at the NSAC Farm . This course is mandatory for for all students who will be required to operate tractors as part of their summer employment. Participants will meet at the Ruminant Animal Centre at 8:30 a.m. on Monday May 9.

New Travel Claim Form for Effective April 1, 2011
A new travel expense claim form has been posted to the Financial Services website, to be utilized effective April 1, 2011, with new corresponding travel rates, effective for travel April 1, 2011 and beyond.
Please note that travel claims should only be submitted on a monthly basis. The new form will track your expenses for the year.
Travel claims not processed on this form will be processed only after a secondary review process is completed in Financial Services, and may result in the claimant having to resubmit on the correct form.
You will note that on opening the excel file, excellent instructions are included to complete and maintain travel file information on an annual basis, and will be particularly useful for anyone new to using the Excel form. Please be sure to read the Instruction tab completely.
Each manager approving travel claims must have at least one staff person trained to certify the accuracy of travel claims, prior to the mangers approval. These staff in addition to staff at Financial Services, should be able address any concerns/issues with this new form. In addition, Financial Services will again be conducting information sessions during fiscal 2011-12 in both Truro & Halifax.
Also please note that Reimbursement for Private Accommodations Allowance for Non Bargaining Employees, remains at $20.00 per evening.

OH&S and WHMIS course being held on May 18th from 9-12 and 1-4, Riverview Room. Please register with Sharon soakley@nsac.ca
Chartwells – Jenkins Marketplace & Catering
Jenkins Dining Hall will be open from May 7 breakfast until May 15 lunch for meals. We will be then closed and opening again the week of June 13.
Catering services are always available but we kindly remind people of placing orders with a minimum of 48 hours notice and a week for large events.
Please contact our office at 897-1952 with any questions or information regarding the dining services.
