NSAC students named Academic All-Canadians
Three NSAC students have been named Academic All-Canadians by the Sport Information Resource Centre and the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association for combined excellence in collegiate athletics and academics.
Varsity soccer athletes Kent Mader,(New Germany, NS), Megan Turple (Middle Sackville, NS) and Trevor Seymor (Lower Millstream, NB) have been named to the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association’s All-Conference Team and achieved honors of 80 per cent or higher in their academic programs. Ralph Martin accepts new chair to focus on sustainable food production
A unique new position at the University of Guelph will help consolidate knowledge about sustainable food practices and make that knowledge more access.
Ralph Martin, a respected plant and animal sciences professor at Nova Scotia Agricultural College, has been named to the Loblaw Companies Chair in Sustainable Food Production. The position, the first of its kind in Canada, was created through a $3 million gift by food distribution giant Loblaw Companies Limited. Click here for complete article.
Active Learning Workshop - Corinna Taylor
Active learning can be defined in many different ways. In the most basic sense it is "Learning that requires moving, talking, thinking - so that what is being taught is retained in the long-term". Active learning is a very important part of higher education and can be introduced into the classroom in many different ways. This workshop will bring to light some ideas that can be easily implemented into classrooms at NSAC.

Animal Science and Aquaculture Undergraduate Conference
April 2 - 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
Department of Plant and Animal Sciences

Animal Science and Aquaculture students will be presenting their fourth year research projects on Saturday, April 2 in Cox Institute beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Students will be presenting their research projects in the areas of genetics and molecular biology, animal welfare, physiology, nutrition, food products and behaviour using cattle, sheep, mink, poultry, fish and shellfish.
Continuing Education on the road with Tractor Safety Course
On April 30 and May 1, 2011 Continuing Education will be offering the NS Tractor Safety Certification course at Dalbrae Academy in Mabou, Cape Breton.
This course will increase the awareness and test competency of Nova Scotia youth, with a Nova Scotia Class 8 drivers license, with regards to safe operation and use of farm tractors and implements. Topics such as safety, highway regulations, pre-operation checks, safe starts and stops and connecting and hauling various implements will be covered.

Retirement Party
The Business & Social Sciences department invites you to a reception for Janet Reade. Janet is retiring on March 31 after 34 years and ten months of dedicated service to NSAC. The reception will be on Thursday, March 31 from 3.30 to 4.30 in the Business & Social Sciences’ board room in Cox Institute. Please join us in wishing Janet all the best on her new adventures.
Truro Rotary Auction
The Rotary Club of Truro is holding its 64th Annual Auction. The proceeds from this event go toward projects that support people in our community including providing bursaries at NSAC.
The Auction is held on line at http://trurorotaryauction.com and will be taking bids on the 700 items up until March 28th. As a major partner with Rotary, there are several NSAC items for sale on the website and the university is listed as a sponsor.
You can help by participating in the auction and encouraging others to as well. Visit the website, register for a PIN and have some fun.

Request for Exam Accommodations
Exams are quickly approaching! If you are a student with a permanent disability and have registered with the Special Cohort Coordinator, I need your "Request for Exam Accommodations" sheet filled out and handed in by 4:00pm on Friday, April 1. (One is attached and/or you can pick up bright green ones from the Dairy Building)
If this is not done, I may not be able to meet your request for accommodation at a later date because of scheduling conflicts.
Study Tips
Starting March 28, you will have two weeks before exams are here! This is a GREAT time to start your exam review.
If you want to meet with me that would be great! I can help you organize your studies and last minute projects, look at study strategies that would be good to use and help you to really understand the term 'time management.'

This has been a great first year as Special Cohort Coordinator. I have learned a lot along the way, but at the end of my work day I always look forward to the next one! The best part about this job is working with the students that make up the heartbeat of this institution. Thank you so much for striving to be the best you can be. Also, a huge thank you to the staff and faculty for a great first year and for being so helpful.

Volleyball Recruitment Camp
NSAC Women's Volleyball held a Recruitment Camp recently for volleyball student-athletes interested in playing for NSAC for 2011-2012. Shown below are the athletes that attended. Coach Settle and Assistant Julie MacKenzie have led the Rams for the last four years and are both optimistic about the 2011 Recruitment Season. According to Coach Settle, "we will have a contender for the ACAA title if everyone we expect to register in September does so" .
The Rams finished in a tie for fourth this season, losing in a tie breaker to Mt A , who went on to win the ACAA Championship.

Update from Enrollment Management Office
It's Science Fair season and NSAC is an active supporter of Science Fairs throughout the region. Maxine is serving as a judge at the Chignecto Central West Regional Science Fair tomorrow and the Annapolis Valley Regional Science Fair on Wednesday. Janet is judging at PEI's provincial Science Fair tomorrow. NSAC provides prizes and scholarships at the regional science fairs in the Annapolis Valley, Cape Breton, Chignecto West and PEI. The provincial Francophone Science Fair in Nova Scotia was held last week.
NSAC's $100 prize for an outstanding project at the intermediate level demonstrating an effect of science to agriculture was won by Brandon Doucette, who attends Ecole secondaire de Par-en-Bas in Tusket, Yarmouth County. A $1,000 Entrance Scholarship to NSAC was awarded Julian Ragot, from Shubenacadie, NS, who attends Ecole Acadienne de Truro. His senior project was on energy conservation.
Last week Maxine represented NSAC at a university fair hosted at the East Coast School of Language. She reported there was a lot of interest in NSAC.
The varsity coaches have been actively promoting to prospective student athletes. On Sunday, Mandy spoke to a group of prospective students at an introductory training session for our women's volleyball team. Maxine also spoke to prospective students at a session with our men's soccer team.
Chicken Sale
The DEM students are hosting a sale of whole chickens on Friday, April 8th 2011. The sale will take place from 12 noon until 1 pm in Haley Institute. The chickens will be sold whole and will be $5.25/kg.
