NSAC Founding Day
NSAC will celebrate its 106th anniversary on Monday, February 14th with hot chocolate and cookies in the Centennial Amphitheatre at 10:00 a.m. Come help us celebrate, meet up with some colleagues you haven't seen in awhile and just have some winter fun.

Lani Medina Weigert is an independent marketing and customer service consultant who also co-owns Ali`i Kula Lavender, Hawaii’s premier lavender farm. Lani has 30 years of experience in tour and hospitality marketing as director of sales & operation for one of Hawaii’s largest tour wholesalers, Pleasant Holidays. Lani understands how to market and evoke connection with her customers through marketing a “lifestyle” rather than a single product. She is the president of the statewide nonprofit Hawai`i AgriTourism Association, which focuses on guiding farmers to supplement their incomes through value-added products and agriTourism activities. The organization also provides training on customer service to ensure a positive guest experience for farm visitors.
Pomai is the marketing and community relations coordinator for the business and delivers the web site and social media aspects of this workshop.

Calling all Nova Scotians!
This is your opportunity to star in a television advertisement for your province! The “My Nova Scotia” campaign wants your audition videos. You have the opportunity to showcase your talent and share your personal thoughts on why Nova Scotia is the best place to be this summer!
Nova Scotia Tourism wants you to share your favourite Nova Scotia adventure. Whether it is a place, festival, event, restaurant… what gets you excited about a vacation in Nova Scotia?
Twenty winners will be selected to star in Nova Scotia’s tourism campaign within the Maritimes this summer.
Starting in early March and continuing for four weeks, a province-wide search will begin. We will be traveling to various Nova Scotia destinations to ensure we scour the province for top talent. Places and dates to be determined soon!
The ability to express all of the great things Nova Scotia has to offer in a compelling and enthusiastic manner will determine the winners.
You can submit your video entry through novascotia.com. All videos will be visible to the public. This contest is open to all legal residents of Nova Scotia and professional actors will not be excluded.

IMPACT Youth Conference
A student’s favourite phrase: “the deadline has been extended”. That’s the case for applications for IMPACT! Youth Conference for Sustainability Leadership which has extended its application deadline to midnight, February 4, 2011.
The 165 participants selected to attend this free, national, bilingual, hands-on conference will:
- Be inspired by Dr. David Suzuki’s key-note address
- Collaborate with expert leaders and facilitators to explore and build tangible multi-industry and system sustainability solutions
- Network with a diverse group of young Canadian sustainability leaders
- Develop practical skills to lead sustainability initiatives following the conference
Qualified applicants are sustainability leaders between 19 – 25 years of age who are attending a Canadian College or University at the time of the conference. Interested students may also speak with their institution to explore opportunities for independent study course credit.
Held at the University of Guelph from September 15-18, 2011, the conference will excite, empower and equip university and college students to lead sustainability initiatives long after the conference. Students commit time and energy but all conference expenses will be covered for selected participants. Hear what David Suzuki and some participants had to say about the 2009 event on our You Tube video.
IMPACT! is a partnership among: The Co-operators, The David Suzuki Foundation, The Natural Step Canada, the University of Guelph, The University of Saskatchewan Centre for the Study of Co-operatives, Wilfrid Laurier University, Lambton College, Conseil de la coopération de l’Ontario, AIESEC and the Network for Business Sustainability.
Nova Scotia Hort Congress, Old Orchard Inn, January 24-25, 2011

Even with the stormy weather, whiteout conditions and temperatures below -20C, Nova Scotia Hort Congress was a success! The Congress was held at the Old Orchard Inn in the Valley. The attendance was higher than in previous years. With over 30 exhibitors and over 200 participants, everyone was pleased with the program and organization of the Congress. Participants had a good time! As in previous years, NSAC had a booth there, promoting the university to the community. Sherry Matheson and Kris Pruski represented NSAC at the trade show.

Diversity Workshop
Join Keltie Jones on Wednesday February 16th in Cox 136, 5:00-6:30pm for an interactive and informative session about Diversity. Through participation, you will learn to understand the differences and similarities that we all share and experience. This will be fun, so bring a friend or two along! Students, staff and Faculty are encouraged to attend.

NSAC Athlete of the Week
Kyle Gallant is a 4th year student and has been an athlete on the NSAC Woodsmen Team for the past three years.
Whether it is on or off the field he is a strong influence on team spirit and dedication to practice. For the past year he has been the motivational force that has been driving the NSAC Woodsmen team to have fun and at the same time achieve success.
So far this year Kyle and his captain, Marten Dykstra have led their team to win two out of the four league competitions, the most recent being an overall win at MacDonald College this past weekend.

Data roaming while outside Canada

Canada Summer Jobs 2011
Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) is a Government of Canada initiative that provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while achieving tangible results for both students (between the ages of 15 and 30) and their communities.
The application period for Canada Summer Jobs 2011 will be from February 1 to February 28, 2011. Application forms and Applicant’s Guide are available online at:

Call for Nominations: Achievement in Internationalization Award
The Achievement in Internationalization award serves to recognize and celebrate the achievements of a member of NSAC staff or faculty who has contributed to one or more of the numerous aspects of internationalization. This award is now offered every second year and is accompanied by a monetary award as part of the recent revamping of NSAC’s institutional awards. Nominations are due by February 14, 2011. WUSC Valentine Dance
WUSC is hosting a Valentine Sock Hop on Feb 4 from 7-11pm at the Brunswick St. Legion. This fundraiser is to raise money for the Student refugee program's emergency fund in order to cover expenses such as glasses and some dental work. Tickets are being sold, but you can also pay at the door. On Tues Jan 25 and Thurs Jan 27 a booth will be selling tickets in the Registry lobby.The cost is 3$. There will also be a silent auction, flower sale, free snacks and a cash bar. Attendees must be 19 with ID.
