NSAC: An Artist's Perspective
Once again, members of the Truro Art Society spent the day of Open House setting to canvas their perspectives of NSAC in bloom. Features such as the Butterfly Meadow, Rock Garden, Alumni Gardens, livestock and research facilities were highlighted and will be the subject of a month-long exhibit at the Marigold Cultural Centre. Please join us on Thursday, August 11th at 7p.m. for an opening reception in the Art Gallery. Artwork will also be available for purchase.
Vehicle Key Found
A Toyota vehicle key on a blue lanyard was brought to the Conference Office on Aug 7, 2011. It was found in the Cox parking lot area. If this key belongs to you please call Caitlyn at 893-4122 or email cdixon@nsac.ca
Occupational Health and Safety Inspections
OHS Annual Workplace Inspections are DUE into the Safety and Security office by August 31, 2011.
Carpool Request for Halifax-Truro
An NSAC staff member is looking for a regular, reliable, but flexible, carpool option departing from either North/West/South End Halifax or from the carpool lot on Woodland Ave and Micmac Blvd, in Dartmouth (or that area). Why: We would like to introduce you to this year's Orientation theme: Expedition Earth. During lunch, we will reveal all of the exciting events planned for the week of Orientation (Aug 31-Sept 9). Students' Union representatives will be present to answer any questions. In addition, we'd like to take the opportunity to share some of our Shinerama event planning.
Please come out to enjoy tasty food as we reveal Orientation 2011: Expedition Earth!
Fresh Chicken Sale
On Augsut 17th from 3-4 p.m. there will be whole frozen and fresh chicken for sale. It will be a $1.50 per lb($3.30 per kg). The chicken will be available in Haley Institute Room 108.
Staff and Alumni Ice Cream Social
Take a break from your work on a summer afternoon and stroll over to the Alumni Gardens for a cool and tasty ice cream cone!
The Development and External Relations office will be serving up the refreshing treat as a break for NSAC staff and alumni to enjoy.

Retirement Announcement
Congratulations to Anna Fitzgerald, who after 25 years at NSAC, will take a well deserved retirement. In recognition of her many years of teaching, service to our campus and the public, the Department of Environmental Sciences invites all faculty, staff, students, colleagues, present, retired or graduated to a celebration of this occasion on August 31st, 2011 in the Alumni Gardens from 2-4 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Anna has worked with many people in and outside of NSAC, so please feel free to extend this invitation to others as well. Anyone wishing to contribute to a retirement gift may contact Gisele Mazerolle at gmazerolle@nsac.ca or 893-6622.
Bus Familiarization Course
A bus familiarization course is now being offered at Debert Commercial Driving School August 22 or 23. This one-day course can accommodate up to four individuals with a Class 4 license interested in driving the NSAC bus.
Those interested in participating can submit their names to Fred Fergus at ffergus@nsac.ca or 893-6604.
Rural Research Centre Workshop
The Rural Research Centre is sponsoring a workshop, open to the entire NSAC community on Monday, August 22, 2011 from 1-3 p.m., at the Rural Research Centre classroom. The "Bully-Free Workplace Awareness Session" is offered through the NSGEU, who provides the facilitator for the session. The aim of the session is to help identify and eliminate workplace bullying. The program is designed to help employees and employers recognize the difference and identify whether a person (or persons) may be a bully.
Also covered is what is not considered workplace bullying. All are welcome but space is limited.
