Energy Awareness Week Starts Today
Today kicks off Energy Awareness Week at NSAC. Here is the list of events for today through to Thursday:

"Conventional Energy Sources"

Representatives from the Nova Scotia Department of Energy and Nova Scotia Power discuss what we are doing to address emissions, consumption and sustainable energy sources.
Tuesday, March 16
"Climate Change Adaptation"
2 p.m.
Haley 200
A discussion on the effects of climate change by a representative of Clean NS who will delve into adaptation strategies for the province.
"The NSAC Debaters on Alternative Energy Sources"

Alumni Theatre
Four debates in two hours on various topics relating to our energy use and sustainability. Come see students, faculty and staff go toe-to-toe on the following issues: Biomass energy, cap & trade vs. carbon tax, the Alberta Tar Sands and climate change.

"Conserve NS On Home Energy Efficiency"

A talk by NSAC engineering department discussing the projects currently underway to promote and implement renewable energy on campus.
WUSC Coffee House
The WUSC Fair Trade Committee has organized a coffee house on March 24 from
6 p.m. -9 p.m. featuring Juno winning blues singer Morgan Davis. The event is at Roadside Willies with all tickets sales going to the Breaking the Silence Fair Trade coffee farm who has recently had a large amount of their inventory stolen.
Tickets are $10 per person but they must be sold in advanced in order for the restaurant to be able to host the event. If 60 tickets are not sold by the end of this week the venue is cancelled and the coffee house, which is WUSC's major fundraiser, will have to be cancelled.

NSAC Biomass Energy Case Study
NSAC is featured in a new case study done by Biomass Energy Resource Centre (BERC). Using the woodchip heating system, the university has saved a total of $4,244,000 since 1988.

19th Undergraduate Research Conference

French Language Training
The Office of Acadian Affairs, in partnership with Université Sainte-Anne, is pleased to offer French courses in Greenwood, Halifax, Petit-de-Grat, Truro, and Tusket. Acadian Affairs will cover the costs for up to 250 Nova Scotia Government employees across the province during the spring 2010 session.
- The courses run for 10 weeks with classes of 2.5 hours per week. Accelerated courses of 50 hours (2 classes X 2.5 hours/week) are available in Halifax.
- There are day classes and evening classes. Details are indicated on the registration forms available here:

- Classes start the week of April 12 and end the week of June 14, 2010.
- The time commitment should be considered carefully before registering.
- Registration forms must be signed by an authorized official and faxed directly to Université Sainte-Anne.
- The employee is expected to attend at least 70 per cent of the classes or the employee's department/organization will be billed for the total amount of the course.
- Any cancellation not received prior to the second class will result in the employee's department/organization being billed for the total amount of the course.
- The student must indicate the course for which he/she wishes to register or indicate a need to be tested. Students who were enrolled in the fall 2009 or winter 2010 session(s) do not need to be tested and can register at any time, in person or by fax.
- Université Sainte-Anne will confirm registration by e-mail and arrange for placement testing, if required.

Scholarship Spotlight

Farm Credit Canada Present Scholarship at NSAC
The $1,000 Farm Credit Canada Scholarship is presented to a student based on academic performance, interest and competence in farm management and in the subjects associated with the economics of farm business. John Hutchings, FCC District Manager, Charlottetown, PEI, is shown presenting the 2009 scholarship to William Vosman, St. Andrews, NS, a fourth year B.Sc.(Agr.) Agricultural Business student, at NSAC’s Scholarship Banquet.

Pictured above are Brian Crouse and Dr. Leslie MacLaren at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. Also in the photo are the TNAU staff supporting the new articulation program. The photo was taken on the trip Brian and Leslie took to Coimbatore in mid-February. They met with approximately 20 prospective students and their parents about coming to NSAC to complete the requirements of our Bachelor of Technology program in Environmental Hort as well as the requirements of their bachelors degree at TNAU.
