Nova Scotia - Canada's University Capital
Date: Monday, Jan.11
Time: 2 p.m.
Location: Cunard Centre, Halifax
NSAC is part of an exciting marketing campaign in partnership with the other 10 Nova Scotian universities. Nova Scotia - Canada's University Capital is a new co-promotional campaign to reach parents of university-aged students in Nova Scotia, Toronto and Ottawa.
The creative features a professor from each university, featured in a fast-cut and rallying online video, and a microsite that allows visitors to hear from each professor and then find out more about the universities that interest them. This is being managed by Come to Life, Nova Scotia's branding team who are charged with positioning Nova Scotia as a great place to work, live, invest in and visit.
The campaign launches in Nova Scotia on Monday, Jan.11 and a group from NSAC will be attending to spread the NSAC spirit. It launches in Toronto and Ottawa at the end of January.
Sustainability Tip
When cooking at home make larger batches of food so you have leftovers for lunches. Bring those in reusable containers.

2010 Career Fair on Wednesday

With Career Fair this Wednesday, we are asking faculty and staff to support the students by attending the event. Many exhibitors who attend Career Fair are NSAC alumni and would love the opportunity to have a chat with a previous prof. or TA. So, we are always eager to have faculty and staff be present during the day. Your attendance would be noticed and appreciated!!
In addition, any efforts you make to encourage your students to attend would also show your support for university events. We have a slide we would love to have you include in your lectures, or even bring a lab group over that afternoon for a visit.
Career Fair is open Wednesday, Jan.13 from 1 p.m - 6 p.m., and we will be giving away ipods as door prizes every hour. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
For more information visit nsac.ca/careerfair or contact Rebecca at rveenhuis@nsac.ca
Printing project posters and other material
As many of you know, the NSAC Print Centre is available for all of your printing, copying and binding needs. What you may not know is that wide format printing is now available to you as well. Our new, specialized machine can print your project posters, large format photos, trade show displays, interior and exterior signage, magnets and much more. And service is always fast - many have their projects completed same-day. The printing quality is very high so your material will stay the way you first designed it. The added bonus is that printing at NSAC’s print centre is much more environmentally friendly than other printing locations because of the new technology we use.
Contact Glenn at xerox@nsac.ca or by phone at extension 4737 for all your document and printing needs or visit him in the bottom floor of Cumming Hall, across from the mail room.
Congratulations!
The lead-in editorial in the December issue of the Canadian Geographic Magazine concerns a review of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society's 80 years of involvement in arctic exploration and research. The half-page photograph selected by the magazine to illustrate this celebration is one from the 1990 Trans-Ellesmere Island Ski Expedition on which Dr. Robert France, associate professor of Watershed Management in the Engineering Department, was a participant.
Dr. France's role on the 1300-km expedition - the longest man-hauled sledging journey in the Canadian High Arctic since the search for John Franklin in the mid-19th century - was to collect plant samples to determine the global distribution of trace contaminants such as agricultural chemicals, and to simply try to keep up with the others and not die; i.e. he is the last one struggling in his sledge harness-traces in the award-winning photograph shown in the magazine.

Photographer John Dunn, Canadian Geographic Magazine, December 2009 issue.
Congratulations to Dr. France!
