Look Around...

Atlantic Agricultural Forum Hosted by NSAC
The world’s biggest challenges today directly relate to agriculture and the keys to addressing these challenges can be found at the Atlantic Agricultural Forum April 22 and April 23.
With a theme to connect, innovate and renew, this two-day workshop, hosted by NSAC, will focus on the changing face of agriculture and will aim to connect all players in the industry by providing a forum for learning and innovation and by fostering renewal, ideas, growth and partnerships.
The complete program and registration details can be viewed at nsac.ca/aaf
There is limited seating for this event, so please register early. Registration deadline is April 16.
Research is one of the strategic pillars of the future competitiveness and success of the agriculture and agri-food industry in Atlantic Canada and it's this research and innovation that will have a direct impact on the local economy and worldwide.
NSAC alumnus Rob North of CBC Radio is an accomplished broadcast journalist and can show you how to get your research message out. Change IS the message and Rob North will deliver it at the Atlantic Agricultural Forum April 22 and 23.

NSAC Orchard
As you have probably noticed, there are some interesting activities going on at NSAC orchard, right under the water tower by College Road. Apple trees are being pulled out, not because we want to destroy them, but because they are very old (planted in 1980s) and diseased. The two rows of trees next to College Road will stay – they were planted in late 1990s and they were just pruned two weeks ago. All these activities will make room for new plantings of a number of fruit crops. There are already four rows of Haskap (edible honeysuckle) and a small vineyard planted there. Black currant research plots, new strawberry varieties and new raspberries will be planted there this season. This work is being done in close collaboration with the Organic Centre. The orchard is intended to be under organic management.
If you have questions please contact Dr. Kris Pruski (893-6032) or Dr. Andy Hammermeister (893-8037).
