A Note from the Deputy Minister
Good afternoon,
This week we’re celebrating Public Service Week across government.
It’s one way we’re saying thanks to all civil servants while
recognizing your commitment to serving Nova Scotians.
Each day, I have the privilege of working alongside dedicated and
professional public servants, both on the Agriculture and the Fisheries
and Aquaculture sides, who share the common goal: a commitment to
serving Nova Scotians. Whether you’re found in an office in Halifax,
Kentville, Bible Hill, Deep Brook, Pictou or Truro, or your work takes
you to different sites each day, know that you make life better for Nova
Scotians.
I believe our public servants are truly great people doing great
things. You deserve to be celebrated for your accomplishments and
contributions today and every day.
Please join me in celebrating public service this week.
Paul LaFleche
Deputy Minister

International Office Hosts Two Tanzanian Groups
NSAC has had two separate groups visiting under the Education for Employment (EFE) program funded by ACCC (Association of Canadian Community Colleges). The first group to arrive on Sept. 11th was Mlingano, a Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute focussed on Agro-mechanization. Our second group, Mpanda, is Vocational and Education Training Authority offering many vocational degrees including diplomas in agro-mechanization.
The five Mlingano staff (Instructors, Dean, Principal) from Tanga have spent two weeks with us, after spending two weeks with the Marine Instutite in Newfoundland, the lead partner under this funding contract. Our schedule involved local farm tours, introduction to NSAC and our teaching tools and demonstration sites, short course introduction and attendance at the Modern Shepherd course and the On-Farm Agricultural Residuals Composting Workshop as well as the Urban Agriculture Conference.
The other group is comprised of four staff (instructors, HR and Manager) from Mpanda Vocational Training Authority, in Central West Tanzania and is here for six weeks. NSAC is the sole Canadian education institution on this partnership. During their time they will be offered in-depth training on Competency Based Education Training (CBET) and short course development occupational analysis, entrepreneurship, strategic planning, gender and project management. A key outcome of this partnership is the planning and development of a farm demonstration site on the Mpanda campus for teaching purposes. NSAC will offer their expertise and support to the development of this on their campus.
We thank all faculty and staff who have supported the International Office in creating a robust and productive schedule for our guests.
