NSAC Convocation
NSAC will celebrate its 105th Convocation ceremony, Friday
May 7, 2010 beginning at 2:00 pm in the Langille Athletic Centre
with 172 students scheduled to participate. A highlight of
the ceremony will be the presentation of an honourary doctorate
to NSAC alumnus Mr. Charlie Embree who will also address the
graduates. For additional information please visit the NSAC
convocation website.
New Faces
The
Development and External Relations office would like to welcome
Anna Rutherford to the team. Anna is from
Brookfield Nova Scotia and is going into her third year of
public relations at Mount
Saint Vincent university. Anna is spending her first
co-op work term at NSAC and will be on campus until the
end of
August.

Food Service Hours of Operation Update
Cox’s Cupboard – Open for the week of May 3, 8:30
a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily (Friday closing at 1pm).
Jenkins Hall – Full dining room services available Monday
to Thursday breakfast 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch 12 p.m. to
1 p.m., supper 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. (no supper Thursday night).
Catering Services – We are always open for catering business.
Please remember a minimum notice of 48 hours for coffee breaks
and 72 hours for catered luncheons. For all reception and banquet
style events you should book with a minimum of two weeks in
advance.

NSAC Spirit Awards
The NSAC Spirit Award is an award introduced last year. It
recognizes a student’s contribution to multiple activities
at NSAC exhibiting school spirit. The award was presented
to Daniel Muir and Donald Buchanan at the Student Leadership
Banquet on March 22.

Dan is in his fourth year of the Animal Science program. He
currently holds the position of Vice President of Communications
on Students Union. He was an orientation leader for two years,
Chapman House President last year, a member of SRC, as well
as assisted with Operation Red Nose.
Donald is also in his fourth year of the Animal Science program.
He was on Chapman House Council, SRC, he volunteered with
University Day, he was an orientation leader, he currently
holds the position of VP of Administration and has been
recently voted to be the 2010-2011 Students Union President.
These guys have been a dynamic duo throughout the year. Judy
Smith, Dean of Students and Athletic Centre, is shown with
Dan and Donald. Congratulations!
Employee Orientation Session
The Work Well Team has arranged an orientation day for all
new staff hired since September 2009 (summer students not included).
We encourage all new hires to attend this year's orientation
session.
An employee handbook alone is not sufficient to welcome new
employees. Don't be overwhelmed by all the information there
is to absorb as you get acquainted with department and government
processes and procedures.

NSAC International Beyond Borders
Want to spend a semester abroad as an intern contributing
to development work and experience living in another country?
Internship funding covers airfare, living allowance
and other expenses!
NSAC students (3rd and 4th year, graduate level) have the
opportunity to participate in funded internships in Ethiopia
during the 2010-2011 fall semester at the Jimma University
College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (JUCAVM).

Sustainability Network on Campus
NSAC is hosting the Atlantic Colleges and Universities Sustainability
Network (ACUSN) on campus, Wednesday, May 5th.
This network was established with the hope of partnering with
sister institutions in
an effort to develop best practices for university and college
sustainability.

NSAC's Horticulture and Landscape Training Center and Atlantic
Turfgrass Research Center combine efforts to become the Atlantic
Region Official Test Site for the Certified Horticultural Technician
(CHT) certification tests.
Shown in photo are Atlantic region
landscape, horticulture and turfgrass industry personnel, Department
of Environmental Sciences landscape, horticulture and turfgrass
faculty and staff gathered for a group photo after as very
successful day of industry personnel certification testing
on April 24, 2010. Landscape Nova Scotia, Landscape Newfoundland
and Labrador, Landscape New Brunswick and the Canadian Nursery
Landscape Association presented the event.
Sponsors included:
Toro, Echo, Atlantic CAT, and Shaw Brick. Accolades to the
NSAC team lead by Tracey MacKenzie and Jeff Morton for their
outstanding efforts to host this major industry event.
