NSAC Governance Transition Project Update
As part of the NSAC's devolution from government, the Governance Transition team is compiling an inventory of all equipment including vehicles, lab equipment, furniture and so on. Having an accurate inventory of NSAC's assets is necessary for insurance purposes, budgeting, maintenance, replacements, surplus as well as determining if there is shared responsibility with the Department of Agriculture.
The equipment inventory work is being managed by Jen Thompson. This will be done in several phases. Phase I involves conducting a review of all equipment. During Phase II, budget managers and researchers that originally purchased the item will be contacted to determine if the item is still in use, as well as some key information such as location and size. Phase III involves conducting a physical count of some items.
You may be contacted over the next several weeks with questions on this equipment. Your co-operation in providing any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, if you have any inventory lists in your own departments or labs please forward them to Jen.
Should you have any questions at any point on the inventory, please do not hesitate to contact Jen Thompson at thompsjy@gov.ns.ca or 896-4478.
Sincerely,
Bernie MacDonald,
Co-President, VP Administration
Executive Sponsor, NSAC Transition

A New Plan for Nova Scotia's Agriculture Industry
Agriculture Minister John MacDonell unveiled the 10-year plan, Homegrown Success.
It outlines a broad approach for the growth of Nova Scotia's agriculture industry. It focuses on creating business opportunities in high-value areas, innovation, building the Nova Scotia brand, connecting businesses with potential partners abroad and helping farmers generate greater profits from the marketplace.
"This is a call for all Nova Scotians to support the agriculture industry," said Mr. MacDonell. "While this fulfills an important commitment for government, we all share the responsibility for making agriculture a profitable, competitive and self-reliant industry that will ensure our long-term prosperity."
It is part of the government's jobsHere plan to create good jobs and grow the economy.
Homegrown Success looks at economic, environmental and social trends in Nova Scotia and around the world, and how they impact our agriculture industry. The report outlines how the province's natural features, geographic location, expertise in research and development, and natural leadership abilities can be used to grow the agriculture industry.
"I believe the key to long-term success in agriculture is our ability to be innovative and adapt to the changing marketplace," said Mr. MacDonell.
Homegrown Success contains a number of objectives and outcomes that government and industry will work together to achieve.
The Homegrown Success plan is available at gov.ns.ca/agri
