MacRae Library introduces new search interface and updated web site.
MacRae Library has launched a new catalogue search interface, called WorldCat Local, that will help students, faculty and staff easily locate and obtain local, regional and worldwide library resources. This new interface works in conjunction with the Novanet interface, which will continue to be available as a valuable search tool.
When a MacRae Library user conducts a search using the WorldCat Local search box, items that are available in the MacRae Library are shown at the top of the search results, followed by resources from other Novanet libraries. Key services such as holds, Novanet Express and My Account are all still available through the new interface. An exciting feature of WorldCat Local is that users can now see the results from other Atlantic and Canadian university libraries and libraries around the world from within the same search interface and place an interlibrary loan request directly from the results screen.
The WorldCat Local search box is a key feature of the library’s redesigned web site: http://nsac.ca/library . The new web site also highlights online databases arranged by subject, new subject guides, a detailed help section and more. All the search tools users are familiar with, including the Novanet Catalogue, Resolver and A-Z database list are still available from the site.
Staff at MacRae Library will be holding classroom instruction throughout the fall semester, which will include how to use WorldCat Local to find resources.
Questions or comments regarding WorldCat Local or the new web site may be directed to Elaine MacInnis, University Librarian, at emacinnis@nsac.ca or 893-6669.

Recruitment Update
Hello!
During these past few weeks, Recruitment has been extremely busy organizing and planning for our next few months. As this is Orientation Week, I would like to thank the Recruitment staff and Ambassadors for such an incredible year! It is always a pleasure to see all of our hard work come together when we see new students and their supporters arrive on campus and settle in. Janet Walker has done an incredible job of maintaining an organized and efficient plan with Orientation! Congratulations to the committee! In Wayne's last report, it was predicted that we would see 900 students this fall! What an incredible and significant increase over the past few years. When I reflect back to when I accepted the Coordinator position almost five years ago, we were facing a challenging few years ahead of us, with declining numbers of high school graduates, a downward turn in the economy, decrease in agricultural funding and number of farms, and the strong recruitment efforts of the Oil Industry in Western Canada. Campus should be proud that we are the only post secondary institution in Nova Scotia experiencing growth! Collaboratively, we have achieved something other universities envy. Please recognize our Marketing, PR and Alumni Departments, along with our Athletic Coaches who work with us to help recruit every day in many ways. Our Enrollment Management Department is dedicated to the Recruitment, Orientation and Retention of our students. Thank you for sharing in that!
All the best and have a wonderful first week of classes!
Monica

Soccer Pre-Season Camps
Both men's and women's soccer teams have completed their pre-season camps with exhibition games this weekend.
The men's team played AUS members - MT A on Saturday and U de Moncton on Monday. Both pre-season games were losses. Scott Brown scored for the Rams against MTA . Scott is a returning All-Conference Soccer player for the Rams. The team is now well prepared for league play which starts Sept. 12/13 with away games at UNBSJ and STU.
The women's team played MTA on Saturday as well and then travelled to Quebec City to play Ste Foy on Monday. Ste Foy is one of the top AAA teams in Quebec. Again both games were losses, but a great prep for league play. League play for the women starts with the same opponents this upcoming weekend.
