Changes in Cost of Employee Benefits
The cost of the NS government employees' health and dental benefits plans for the 2009-10 policy year will increase. New rates will be reflected on employees' Nov.5, 2009 pay.
The health and dental benefit plan premium is increasing by 3.4 per cent due to the rising costs of health and dental services and an increase in use. This increase affects government employees who are plan members. There will be no change to the coverage of services under the plan.
Basic Life Insurance rates and Optional Life Insurance rates will remain unchanged for 2009-10.
The costs of these plans are adjusted based on an annual review of each plan. Cost sharing arrangements will be maintained, which means the adjusted costs will affect both the employer and employees' contributions.
For more information, fact sheets with the specific rate changes for each employee group are available on the PSC website under Benefit Resources: gov.ns.ca/psc/v2/employeeCentre/benefits/
Please share this notice with employees who may not have received this e-mail.

Message from Ron Young
Ron Young is being released from the rehabilitation centre on Thursday, Oct. 29 after 16 weeks of recovery from his accident.
Sent on behalf of Ron: I would like to thank everyone who sent cards and messages of encouragement through Kim expressing concern for my well being during my recovery. Kim and I would also like to express our gratitude to everyone who supported us during this difficult time. This journey would have almost been unbearable without the support we received from family, friends and colleagues.
Thanks so much,
Ron V. Young
