Hello from Recruitment
What a busy time we've had in Recruitment. Our days on the road are over for a few weeks and we have turned our attention toward securing commitment from prospective and newly admitted students. A huge thank you to all who helped along the way!
We are preparing for September and part of our strategy is to further involve parents and supporters with an invitation to Open House on July 23rd and a Local Student Reception, scheduled for Thursday July 30th, 7 to 9 p.m. Invitations will be sent to the students this week. Please note that this is an open invitation to NSAC staff and faculty who are interested in meeting and greeting our local students. I hope to see many faces from campus there. Please RSVP by July 27th if you can attend msani@nsac.ca
In addition to planning the Local Student Reception, Ashley has been working on a few new items that, again, set NSAC ahead of other universities in recruitment tools. Our first new piece of information designed for our International Guidance Counselors is a fully loaded USB wrist band, complete with all of our view books and a letter of welcome. Since we are leaders in sustainable campus activities, we thought it would be better to use less paper, less ink and less electricity printing the view books and add less weight to luggage, thus less fuel and send our counselors home with a nice gift. We are ordering a good supply of these bracelets to give to our local high school counselors for quick reference.

NSAC Input Needed on Agriculture/Agri-Food Industry in Nova Scotia
The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture and the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture, through the Competitive Transition Analysis Group, invite you to attend a workshop seeking your input on how we can achieve an agricultural sector that is self-sufficient, independent, sustainable and has appropriate intervention by government, allowing market signals to drive businesses. Your input is needed to help identify what barriers need to be removed to allow competitiveness in the agriculture/agri-food sector, as well as finding what resources are needed by the agriculture/agri-food sector to compete in the market and what our greatest opportunities are in agriculture, agri-food and agri-based products.
The workshop will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 in the Riverview Room, Jenkins Hall. Please RSVP to Jill Rogers at rogersjx@gov.ns.ca by Tuesday, July 14, 2009.

Farewell
Karen Stratton
The Department of Environmental Science invites you to a reception for Karen Stratton, who retired at the end of June. This celebration will be held in Room 220 of the Cox Institute today from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Karen graduated from our Biology Laboratory Technology Program in 1975 and was awarded the Governor General’s Medal for her academic achievements. While she was a student she assisted with blueberry research during the summers and upon graduation was hired at NSAC as a casual employee to assist with lab classes in the Departments of Biology and Plant Science. She was hired on a permanent basis as a Department of Biology technician in 1976. Since then Karen has provided laboratory assistance in over 25 different biology and environmental sciences courses, in addition to providing support to various researchers and graduate students. If you wish to make a donation towards a retirement gift for Karen, please drop off your donation either to Gisele Mazerolle (Cox Institute) or Charlotte Sullivan (Cox Room 118).
Please join us in wishing Karen all the best on her new endeavor.
