Over the past few years, NSAC has adopted several programs and initiatives to promote sustainability and reduce our impact on the environment. A new committee is being formed to promote these initiatives and develop a cohesive campus strategy for sustainability. The committee will include individuals who represent a variety of perspectives, including students, staff, faculty, and administrators. If you are interested in being a member of the committee, please e-mail Keltie Jones, Associate Vice President for Students, at kjones@nsac.ca.

Techsploration Information Session
A representative of Techsploration will be on campus Wednesday, September 2nd to provide an information session for NSAC. Techsploration is a program that provides young women with an opportunity to explore career options in the fields of science, trades, and technology, with the goal of increasing the number of women working in these areas. Young women from grades nine to 12 work with female role models in science, trades, and technology occupations to learn about careers and the critical role of work in their lives. The program also serves to help young women understand the significance of high school math and science for their future careers. By participating in Techsploration, young women realize enhanced skills in presentation and report writing, communication, leadership, and teamwork abilities, while experiencing increased confidence, self-esteem, and cultural awareness.
If you are interested in learning more about this program, and how you can become involved as a female role model, please join us Wednesday, September 2nd, at 2p.m. in the CA Douglas Room, Cumming Hall. Please visit the Techsploration website at www.techsploration.ca or contact Jenna Tingley (jtingley@nsac.ca), Office of the VP Administration, if you have questions about this program.

Handwashing Poster
August has almost come to an end and I mentioned that we would be providing handwashing posters in our last quarterly newsletter. HPP is in the midst of printing another batch, but our friends over at DNR had made one of their own and are graciously sharing with us.
Please find attached an Acrobat version of DNR's poster. Feel free to print and post it in your workplace. You may choose to post it in your washrooms, lunchrooms and even near communal areas such as the photocopier room.
When we get HPP's poster, we'll let you know, but we wanted to make sure adequate signage was in each office before any flu or cold outbreak.
I'd like to thank Brian White at DNR for generously sharing their poster with us.
Thank you,
Tim
Medical Pandemic Plan
In the event a pandemic occurs, there are many potential impacts on the campus. Students may be unable to attend classes due to illness and employees may be unable to come to work due to illness or the need to care for family members. In addition, because of the close contact in classes and residences and many opportunities for public gatherings, there is a significant risk that a disease could spread quickly through the campus community. The medical pandemic plan is intended to provide guidelines for the campus on how to respond at varying levels of pandemic, from minor impacts to full closure. The plan covers topics of prevention and preparation, communication, health services, academic operations, residence, dining services and campus closures. NSAC’s medical pandemic plan can be view online at http://nsac.ca/admin/policies/Medical_Pandemic_Plan.pdf.
