Promote the Embrace Your World Campaign
What good is a great institutional marketing campaign if
we don't share it? Please help promote NSAC and the great
work
we do here by sharing the new campaign with your contact
list. Here's how: We have posted a sample e-mail note at nsac.ca/embraceyourworld/print-pieces.
All you have to do is copy the note into the body of an
e-mail
and
personalize it for the person
to whom you're sending it. If it's a supplier, you can
talk about how strong relationships with key suppliers
(or access to the best products/services) ensures we can
spend
our time focusing on making a difference in our world through
agricultural science. Or if you're sending to a prospective
research partner, you might talk about how the work you
two are considering doing will make a difference in our world
so it's more important than ever that you get started on
the collaboration.
This message is a great excuse to get
in touch with those contacts you've drifted from too.
Today you have a chance to strengthen some of your own existing
relationships and do something great for the university!
Call for Institutional Honourary Awards
Nominations
It’s time to consider nominations for Honourary Doctorate,
or Honourary Associates, and Friend of NSAC awards.
The Honourary
Awards Committee, made up of Kirsti Rouvinen-Watt, Nathan
Boyd, Vasantha Rupasinghe and Jim Goit, is seeking your
input.
Completed nomination packages for Honourary Doctorate
or Honourary Associates must be submitted to the Committee
by Nov. 1. A
complete nomination package must include a current
and complete curriculum vitae (or equivalent biographical
and professional
achievements documentation) and at least two letters
of support explaining why the nominee is deserving
of
the
award of Honourary
Associate. The Honourary Doctorate nomination needs
to go through the Dalhousie process as an extra step
so
additional time is
required.
Completed nomination packages for the Friend of NSAC
should include background information sufficient
for the committee
to make an informed decision on the worthiness of
the candidate individual or organization.
Details on the various awards, as well as those who
have been honoured before, can be found at nsac.ca/admin/awards/
Remember, ALL nominations are due by Nov. 1. No
extensions will be granted.

International Food Business Program Update
During late August, Professor John Stackhouse, Dr. Leslie
MacLaren and Heather-Anne Grant had the privilege of traveling
to CAH Dronten, NSAC’s partner in the International
Food Business (IFB) program. The first item on the agenda
was to sign the IFB MOU. To mark the
occasion, the two institutions exchanged gifts- NSAC presented
CAH Dronten with an engraved silver tray while CAH Dronten
presented the NSAC delegation with wooden shoes. Dr. Steven
Russell, one of the pioneering minds behind the IFB program
was sadly missed at the signing ceremony. However, the
Dronten team made certain that Dr. Russell received his very
own
pair of wooden shoes. The shoes traveled to Nova
Scotia from Holland and were presented to a surprised Dr.
Russell at a recent Faculty Council meeting.
Following the signing of the MOU, Professor Stackhouse and
Dr. MacLaren departed the Netherlands while Heather-Anne
remained to work with her counterpart, Natasja Spaargaren.
Heather-Anne took the opportunity to get
to know the CAH campus, the town of Dronten and its surrounding
area
and Dutch culture in general. This experience will help her
in her communications and marketing of the IFB program to
prospective students.
The IFB program continues to generate much excitement among
high school students and food industry stakeholders. This
is a key period in NSAC’s recruitment cycle and word
of the IFB program is spreading like wildfire. Stay tuned
for the next exciting update.

NSAC
Co-President Dr. Leslie MacLaren and CAH Dronten’s
Dr. Tim Menger, Head, Department of International Studies
and Consultancy, sign the NSAC-CAH Dronten
International Food Business MOU.

Drive Away Hunger Final Weigh-In Results
Thanks to the generous support of everyone on-campus,
NSAC donated 4,416 pounds of food to Feed Nova Scotia.
John Hutchings, director
of Price Edward Island and Nova Scotia FCC and tour manager
of Drive Away Hunger, was very happy, but not surprised,
with NSAC's outstanding contribution. “NSAC
has never failed to surprise me and amaze me with its generosity
for community
projects
and
involvement
of the student council. I really admire your school spirit.
Thanks for coming on board and helping us stay on our target.
Raising the food for those in need is very important and
raising awareness is also critical."
John also suggested
that next year NSAC should issue a two-ton challenge
to other Nova Scotia universities.
Congratulations and thanks were also extended from Dianne
Swinemar, executive director of Feed Nova Scotia. “There
are 150 different food banks shelters and kitchens who
rely
on
us to get
the supplies
they need
to help feed the 40,000 people that come to them every
month. What you did is extraordinary, its great and I
thank you."
Thank you and congratulations NSAC!
