Flags at Half Mast
The flags in front of Cumming Hall will fly at half-mast in
recognition of the passing of Dr. Errol Hancock. Dr. Hancock
passed away on Saturday at age 106. This is the man after whom
the Hancock building is named - so ends an era in Veterinary
Medicine. He passed away just one week after observing his
106th birthday.
Graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1924, Dr.
Hancock became responsible for the initial testing of cattle
for tuberculosis eradication in Nova Scotia in 1927. He continued
his pioneering work here in the eradication and control of
other poultry and cattle diseases. In 1937 he joined the Nova
Scotia Department of Agriculture as its first Provincial Animal
Pathologist, establishing the Provincial Veterinary Laboratory
at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro. He retired
in 1963 after a long and distinguished career. He was a founding
member, past president, and life member of the Nova Scotia
Veterinary Medical Association, a founding member and life
member of the Canadian Veterinary Association, and a life member
of the Nova Scotia Institute of Agrologists.

NSAC Environmental Economics Research Garners International
Acclaim
It has only been since spring that Petr Prochazska graduated
from the Master of Science program at NSAC, but already his
research has drawn the attention of the international academic
community. A paper written by Mr. Prochazka and Dr. Stephen
Clark of NSAC’s Department of Business and Social Sciences
was accepted for presentation to the European Association of
Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) Association Meetings
in Gothenburg, Sweden. “The EAERE liked Petr’s
submission so much that they offered him funding to attend
the conference,” said Dr. Clark. Click

NSAC Open House was a Hit!
NSAC's 37th Annual Open House was a hit! The weather cooperated
and the event was very successful. It is estimated that a couple
thousand visitors, of all ages, came out for the event. Judging
from the amount of smiles, all visitors seemed to enjoy themselves,
and their feedback was very positive. A big thank you to all
departments involved for their time and effort put into planning
and staging fun activities and engaging displays. Thanks also
needs to go to Security and Physical Plant for helping to ensure
that the event ran smoothly. A great day was had by all!

Wellness Tip:
Walk to Reduce Stress Levels
Research reveals that three 10-minute walks taken at different
times of
the day are as effective at relieving tension and anxiety
as one
30-minute walk. To keep stress levels under control, take
a quick walk
before work, take a 10-minute stroll at lunchtime, and then
finish your
day with a brisk power walk around the block when you get
home.
Recruitment Update
Hello from Recruitment!
This past week was extremely fulfilling for our department
as we've moved forward with our Local Student brochure. With
just a few more edits, we should have a finished product to
complete our suite of materials. Brian and I are very happy
with the brochure and are proud of this accomplishment.
Craig returned from the conference with a great reports on
the sessions he attended and also provided the team with wonderful
presentation links.
Similar to last year, Recruitment and Enrollment Management
has taken advantage of Open House to facilitate more prospective
student tours, help finalize applications and officially welcome
some International students coming this fall.
Kaylah, Craig and I were on the scene and met several students
from all over! To Kaylah's surprise, a hometown friend from
Quebec arrived with family, specifically to check out NSAC,
never imagining that she would run into Kaylah during the day.
After talking to Kaylah, she has decided to make NSAC home
for the next few years!
Craig met with students from Danvers Massachusetts, along with
several families from all over Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
I had the pleasure of hosting a new Engineering student from
Saudi Arabia, and would like to thank Dr. Rifai, Dr. Havard
and Ali for helping to make Zack feel welcome. He is very excited
about coming to NSAC this fall. Along with all of our expected
guests, we were happy to meet with many prospective students
from our area.
During Open House, Ashley was wearing both hats! Representing
both Residence and Recruitment, here's what she has to report:
" Open House was a huge success in residence this year! The conference
staff were very busy throughout the day touring prospective
students. At least 20 students and their parents were in to
view the residence rooms. Some were even able to see their
particular room they would live in for the school year. Every
student left with a huge smile on their face showing how excited
they were to live in residence and to start up in September.
The entire staff heard nothing but positive comments made about
how friendly and helpful everyone on campus was. Great job
everyone!"
Thanks so much to all of our ambassadors who helped during
the day and many thanks to those in Residence! What a wonderful
success!
Thanks to Shaun Sharpe and Dr. Percival for taking Recruitment
material with them last Saturday to the annual Blueberry Producers
Association of Nova Scotia, Summer Field Day. Both Shaun and
Dr. Percival reported a great event and lots of prospective
interest!

33 years of service with the Nova Scotia Agricultural College
and the turf industry in Atlantic Canada.

friends, and family.

Wireless Markers in Campus Buildings
NSAC's IT Services are preparing campus to be equipped with
wireless service. In order to prepare for this, triangular
shaped tags or pink fluorescent markers have been placed in
various classrooms and hallways across campus. These markers
are important as they show the locations of future wireless
access points. They will be used for the next few months and
they should not be relocated or taken down. Thank you for your
cooperation.
Internet Outage
Eastlink will be conducting upgrades to the NSAC internet
connection tomorrow, July 29. There will be a 10 minute
interruption to internet service between 5a.m. and 6a.m.
This outage will impact the entire NSAC campus, Agritech Park
and the NSAC Residence network.
If you have any questions regarding this outage please feel
free to contact David Miller at (902) 893-6231 or by e-mail.
