Seminar - Prehispanic
Agricultural Systems in Southern Mexico
This afternoon at 1 p.m. in Cox 138, Johan Philippe will
present the seminar: Prehispanic Agricultural Systems in Southern
Mexico.
Johan participated in a six month exchange to the Technological
Institute of Oaxaca Valley (ITVO) in Mexico through the North
American Mobility Project.

International Development Week is Feb. 3 - 9, 2008.

as Diana Youdell, former Head of Aid, Canadian Embassy, current
special advisor to the Director General of the Afghanistan
Task Force at Foreign Affairs will share her unique life
and work experience in Afghanistan and bring us up to date
on the
program and progress being made in the country. Topic: Canada...Making
a Difference in Afghanistan.

Friday, Feb. 8
Dr. Nancy Pitts will deliver an in-class
seminar on "My Science and Life Experiences Gained from
International Assignments" which will be held from 8 a.m.
- 8:50 a.m. and repeated at 1 p.m. -1:50 p.m., both in Cox
24 and all are welcome
to attend. This year she will feature Cambodia, Ghana and Jamaica.
From 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. on Friday
come to Cox 136 and hear all about Janita Sullivan’s
experiences in China as she presents 'China's Food Safety and
Quality: A Country in Transition'. Janita spent 12 weeks in
China as part of the Students For Development program (sponsored
by CIDA).

HRSDC has announced three calls for proposals under the International
Academic Mobility (IAM) Program.
1. Special Initiative Program for International Academic
Mobility (IAM) (Deadline - March 14, 2008)
2. Canada - EU Programme for Co-operation in Higher Education,
Training and Youth (Deadline - April 11, 2008)
3. Program for North American Mobility in Higher Education
(Deadline -April 11, 2008)

Food for Fines

Novanet Libraries
Reduce or clear your Novanet library fines at participating
Novanet Libraries — with food!
For every non-perishable food item donated, NSAC Library Services
will reduce your library fine by $2, to a maximum of $20. All
food donations will be given to the Truro Food Bank.
Just bring your donations of canned goods or other non-perishable
foods to the NSAC Library or at any of the participating libraries
during regular hours. We accept cash as well.
Good for the Libraries, good for the Food Bank, good
for you!
All Food donations are welcome, even if you don’t have
fines.
Food For Fines is an initiative of the libraries at Atlantic
School of Theology, Cape Breton University, Dalhousie University,
DalTech, Mount St. Vincent University, Nova Scotia Agricultural
College, Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, Nova Scotia
Community Colleges, Saint Mary’s University, St. Francis
Xavier University, and University of King’s College.
Surplus Available
Resource Stewardship has a 1995 Ford 'F' series 4x4, approx
150,000 kms, that they plan to declare surplus. The inspection
is up and a pre-MVI has been completed. It has
been
determined that this truck will require approx. $2,500 in
repairs to pass the MVI.
If you require additional information regarding this truck,
please contact Bruce Curry at 986-2477, before Feb. 4.
Scholarship Spotlight
Donald Clark Memorial Scholarship
The $600 Donald Clark Memorial Scholarship was presented to
John McCabe, Truro, N.S., a 4th year Bio-Environmental Systems
Management student at NSAC. Shown offering congratulations
to John is Dr. Allan MacKay and Mrs. Barbara MacKay, who
attended NSAC’s Scholarship Banquet. Selection is based
on academic performance, interest and aptitude in the engineering
field.
Hello from Recruitment!
This year we are attending the International Potato Expo in
Charlottetown, P.E.I. I am hoping to find volunteers who
would like to attend the Expo and represent NSAC. I have several
free passes to give to NSAC representatives and students
who attend the Expo. Passes have to be registered on-line
by Feb. 6 and picked up from me any time before the
14th. If you want me to register one for you, please email
me.

Student Services Welcomes New Staff
Student Services is pleased
to welcome Dara MacCallum to the department in the position
formally known as the DRF. The position
is now Special Cohort Co-ordinator with expanded roles. Dara
is from North River, Colchester County, and has a BA and B.Ed.
She has experience in the secondary school system as a resource
teacher, private school as an adult education teacher and as
a teacher for students with disabilities.
Dara's focus at NSAC will be assisting students with disabilities
, but she will also be working with other cohorts - i.e. mature
students and other groups as well as continuing to co-ordinate
our peer tutoring program.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be touring departments
to introduce Dara to the campus, faculty and staff.
Please don't hesitate to call Dara, should you have any questions
or concerns regarding students in your classes.

double - 10 rebounds, 13 points, 10 assists and 7 steals
against UNBSJ and 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and
2 assists against ABU . A rookie guard, Patricia directs
the Rams offense and is a tenacious defender. Blackie
is also this ACAA Athlete of the Week. |
