Recruitment Update
Hello from Recruitment!
Since our last update, we have had a number of students from
the Maritimes visit campus, including one student, Shane
Hurley and his mother Cathy, who drove up from Massatuches
to visit with Jim Duston in the Aquaculture center and tour
our campus.
We were very luck to host students from Westile and Kensington
High who are in the Ag Certificate program last Thursday
and Friday. The students had a very busy two day schedule
to follow. Day one brought interactive activities from the
Engineering, Environmental, Animal Science and Aquaculture
departments. Thank you Sherry Chassion,
Scott Read, Paul MacIssac and Jean Lynds to setting up activities
for the students. Throughout the evening, we entertained
the students by bringing them to the Hamilton's for a wagon
ride cook out. Fred Hamilton did an amazing job speaking
with the students about the Agri-Tourism industry and his
own business. Before heading out the next morning, the students
were able to sit in on two classes. To all of the professors
who agreed to have these students sit in on their class,
thank you! Finally a big thank you to Kim Williams and Jessica
Reeves for organizing the trip to AC! We will definitely
make this an annual event. Also, a big thank you to our student
ambassadors Maxine Maclean, Julie MacKenzie, Maryella Maynard
and Colin Blenkhorn who took the time to tour these students
throughout campus.
Last weekend, Central Kings and CEC battled it out on the
basketball court at the Athletic Center for one of their
tournament games. Thank you to Donnie MacGregor for arranging
to have these students play on-campus.
As Craig finished up the AARAO tour last week in Antigonish-
Eastern Shore, I did an independent visit at South Colchester
Academy as well as toured a student from the New Brunswick
area.
With exams coming to a close in the next week or so and Christmas
break upon us soon after, we have put a notice out to our
student body for them to volunteer to visit their home high
school over the holidays. We had a great response rate last
year and hope to keep the interest high this year.
Finally, I would like to point out this months issue of the
American Society of Agriculture and Biological Engineers
posted an interview with Wayne Paquet! It is a great article.
What's next for recruitment? Scheduling independent visits
in our local high schools, continue to mind the prospective
student data base and sending our holiday greetings to our
prospective students.
