Sustainability Author to
Hold Seminar at NSAC
Join sustainability author Mike Nickerson for a seminar
entitled Living on Earth As if
We Want to Stay. Mr. Nickerson will speak at the NSAC
Campus on Monday September 8, 2008. The talk will start
12 p.m. in The Cox Institute, Room 257. All are welcome
to attend the seminar which is sponsored by the Organic
Agriculture Centre of Canada (OACC).
The subject of Living on Earth As if We Want to Stay
is that to meet the challenge of our times, we need to find
ways to maintain well-being without the necessity of an
expanding economy. Mike's latest book "Life, Money
& Illusion" discusses how human beings have grown
to the point where they press against planetary limits,
how this marks the maturation of the human species, and
how, when we choose to adapt to the new circumstances, we
can establish a long and fulfilling stability on this planet.
Mike Nickerson has been fascinated for 35 years by cultural
evolution, and in particular, how our societies can and
must adapt to the sustainability challenge. Mike directs
the Sustainability Project, www.SustainWellBeing.net
has written three books on the changing relationship between
people and the earth, and has worked on several campaigns
associated with this transformation.

where the guide and application forms for the upcoming SSHRC
Master’s and Doctoral Scholarship competition can
be found. Departments should carefully read the guide and
supporting documentation (including the tips for a good
application and the application check-list) that can be
found on the SSHRC website.
Dalhousie has been awarded a quota of 19 Master’s
and 27 Doctoral applications for submission to SSHRC for
consideration in the national competitions.
It is the responsibility of each department to review all
applications prior to submitting them to the Faculty of
Graduate Studies Office for the Dalhousie SSHRC Selection
Committee review process. It is important to note that incomplete
applications; improperly completed applications; applications
that do not include official transcripts or other required
supporting documentation; or applications submitted without
the required
number of copies will not be considered by the Dalhousie
SSHRC Selection Committee and will be returned to the department.
The original plus four (4) copies are required. A cover
sheet indicating the departmental ranking of the applicants
must also be included.
**** The deadline for submission of completed SSHRC Master’s
(CGS M), SSHRC Doctoral and CGS D applications to the Faculty
of Graduate Studies is 4:30 p.m., Friday, December 5, 2008.

for the SSHRC competition. Also feel free to contact the
