Academic Personnel: One Month Professional Development
Opportunity in Sunny Mexico or the Exciting United States?
Working has never been so much fun! New country, new cities
to explore, new co-workers and plenty of international friends
to meet!
Our Mexican partner institutions are Universidad Autonoma
de Baja California (UABC), www.uabc.mx,
Instituto Technologico de Valle de Oaxaca (ITVO).
Our American partners are Iowa State University (ISU) www.iastate.edu and Virginia Tech (VT) www.vt.edu.
Working abroad gives you the opportunity to explore options
you may not have in Canada. Collaborate with another university
in either Mexico or the United States and participate in their
learning experience. While there, host a public speaking engagement
and let them know what goes on here at NSAC!
Here is a golden opportunity to participate in an exciting
exchange in which the project is funded in part by the Government
of Canada through Human Resource and Skills Development, Canada’s
International Academic Mobility Programme.
The area of exchange is quite broad and should fit under the
fields of study of Rural Sustainability, Aquaculture and/or
Organic Agriculture.
If you have any questions about fields of
study or scholarly contacts please contact Mark Mason, mmason@nsac.ca or
Dr. Norman Goodyear ngoodyear@nsac.ca .
Closing date for inquiries is June 29, 2007, and the exchange
and work must be completed by February 29, 2008.

Employee Recognition Program: Embrace Your World.
As we all know, the NSAC community is full of hard-working,
dedicated and enthusiastic employees and we would are asking
for your nominations of deserving employees. We would like
to reward bahaviours among employees that reinforce our new
tagline Embrace Your World.
Every Monday,we will highlight and recognize an employee for ‘embracing
their world’ and the extra effort they put into making
their position at NSAC a successful one. This program will
allow all employees to recognize their co-workers for going
above and beyond, whether it be extra time spent helping a
student, volunteering on various committees, with after-hour
events, helping with recruitment, tours and so on.
Everyone who is recognized in the Bulletin will receive an
NSAC Coffee mug. At the end of the month, all the names submitted
for that month will be eligible for a Draw prize.
If you would like to nominate a deserving employee to be recognized,
please complete the short nomination form at http://www.nsac.ca/news/2006/eyw.cfm.
Recruitment Update
Hello from Recruitment!
The past few weeks have been full of activity for us in
Recruitment.
Last week, NSAC was well represented at the Can Am Equine
Emporium. Carollyn Crewe, Lauranne Sanderson and Dara Pelkey-Field
all worked last weekend to promote our increasingly popular
Enterprise Management Equine program. The feedback was great
as our Equine program representatives reported that there were
lots of alumni present and industry contact was successfully
made. On a recruitment note, many grade 9 and 10 students were
present and stopped by the NSAC booth and are learning more
about our university and programs.
Engineernig also added that the Energy Days event in Guysborough
was a great recruitment activity as there were grades 9, 10
and 11 present and our engineering programs were well connected
to the trades represented. Peter Havard also reported that
the students he spoke to were academically strong and generally
interested in NSAC's prgrams.
As a result of the Can Am Equine Emporium and Energy Days,
a need for more industry related promotional materials was
identified. Any department who wants help with creating posters
can call me anytime and we can meet with Lucy for some ideas.
Tours are still a priority for Recruitment and individual
meetings are always happening. This week, we have hosted both
North Colchester High School and Pugwash District High School
for tours and activities of Plant Science, Animal Science and
Aquaculture. These grade 11 classes represent the groups we
are focusing on for the next year. In addition, we continue
to be involved with Ag Zone and are happy to provide our assistance
with the tour.
From May 23rd to 25th, Craig, Lynn, Elizabeth and I attended
Interchange and participated in several meetings and activities
that involved other university recruiters, registrar and admissions
officers as well as guidance counsellors from all over the
Atlantic region.
Recruitment is also preparing for our September to December
schedule as we are working with Marketing to solidify our materials
and travel displays.
Until next time,
Monica
