Founders Day 2007
NSAC is set to celebrate its 102nd birthday on Wednesday, February
14th. As we lead up to the event, we will be sending you a daily
Fast Fact on our proud history. Feel free to share them with
your students and friends. Keep posted to the E-Bulletin for
details on our Founders Day event.
Today's Fast Fact:
Did you know......After a new administration building costing
$30,000 (Cumming Hall), was built on campus in 1904, NSAC first
began classes on February 1, 1905. The first floor of the new
building provided space for the Principal's office as well as
two classrooms, a lab, cloakroom and a workroom connected to
a greenhouse. The second floor consisted of an assembly hall,
classroom and rooms for professors and students. The basement
housed several shops and a boiler room. An official opening
of NSAC was held on February 14th, 1905. Cumming Hall was later
enlarged in 1913 and the 1970s. (Taken from "Shaped Through
Service" by A. Dale Ells).

NSAC Represented at the HORT Nova Scotia
Congress 2007
Last
weekend, the plant section of the Department of Plant and Animal
Sciences set up a display at the HORT N.S. Congress 2007. This
event provided an opportunity for our representatives to meet
and interact with alumni, producers, industry personnel, visitors,
and potential students. In addition to the wide range of interest
in our academic offerings, particularly in edible horticulture,
there was significant interest in the continuing and distance
education opportunities available through the university. Many
people indicated that in their busy lives, CDE would provide
the best venue for them to engage in on-going professional upgrading
and life long learning.
Thanks to all who represented NSAC at HORT NS Congress 2007!

International Development Week
International Development Week is an annual event. This year
NSAC International will be promoting International Development
from February 4th to10th, to coincide with activities across
Nova Scotia and Canada.
NSAC has traditionally had a strong interest and presence
in international development. As a part of the promotions, two
NSAC students will be setting up a “Road Show” in
several sites around campus next week. Carley Thomas, a fourth
year Animal Science student, and Stephanie Gillis, a first year
Pre Vet student will accompany the display board as it travels
around the campus. Both students have international travel experience
and will be able to answer your questions from a personal and
university point of view concerning international study, exchange
or internship opportunities through the NSAC and its partners.
Feel free to contact Mark Mason at 893-6905, mmason@nsac.ca
or Michele Elliott at 893-6514 melliott@nsac.ca

Weedless Wednesday: Guessing Contest
Winner
Niel
Cameron, a fourth year Aquaculture major, was presented with
a $25.00 prize after being the closest participant to guess
the number of cigarette butts in a jar as a Weedless Wednesday
activity. With 830 cigarette butts in the jar, Cameron's guess
was only a few numbers away from the correct amount. Colette

took a guess.
