Recruitment Update
Over the past two weeks, Recruitment has met with potential
students at off campus events such as career fairs, education
fairs and "Wine and Trees", hosted by Kings Tech.
In addition, Glen Sampson and Raj Lada gave talks at the Tree
Grower's Association in Lunenburg last weekend and took NSAC
material. As a reminder, please let me know when you are going
to give a talk, lecture, presentation, etc. so I can ensure
you have an appropriate display and materials.
On that note, Craig and I seem to be missing some key recruitment
display materials - so, if there is anyone on campus that has
our materials - table cloths especially, please bring them
back to Recruitment in the Registry as we are in need of all
three sets.
This is a busy time for Recruitment as we are now looking
toward mining our applicant data base, while continuing to
pursue prospective students as well. We have devised three
strategies and are calling on our student volunteers again
to assist us. Last year our efforts were noticeable and we
hope to continue the momentum!
Last week, I sent each department a copy of our "numbers
report" and ask that we begin planning strategy sessions
as soon as possible. In light of the huge opportunity that
we have to showcase our programs at the CWSF, I hope to hear
from each program and begin planning short and long term goals
to help recruit students. So far I've booked one meeting.
The CWSF is soon approaching and I've put calls out to departments
in hopes of generating some commitment to the Monday, May
14th tour. If you haven't emailed me regarding your portion
of the tour, please do so ASAP as I would like to have this
finalized and information shared with Ag Awareness.
Finally, this is a good time to begin re-working your websites!
Good luck during the last weeks of classes and exams!
Monica
Congratulations to Dr. Yiridoe
The “TOP25” or “TOP20” is an unsolicited
ISI citation data assessment of “most read” articles
or “most cited” articles published for specific
journals. NSAC's Professor Yiridoe was pleased to hear that
in March of this year a 2005 paper published in Agricultural
Economics,
was ranked as number one out of the “TOP20 most cited” articles
in that journal.
A second study published in 2006 in Agricultural
Systems was ranked 16th out of the “TOP25 most read” articles
in Agricultural Systems, in March 2007. Both journals are among
the top peer-review international journals in their respective
areas. Last year in March, another paper published in 2000
in the Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics was ranked
17th out of the “TOP20 most cited” articles in
the CJAE. Such ranking is especially significant for research
publications (such as in Dr. Yiridoe’s studies), as opposed
to literature review articles.
Advanced Connections Workshop – Tuesday, April 24
Advanced Connections allows NSAC staff to
understand what they are good at in terms of dealing with students
and what
they can improve. Participants will learn how to better work
with individuals across campus to provide a positive and memorable
experience for students. Most importantly, participants will
take key learning's with them that can be implemented right
away. We can promise that all participants will find the training
session interactive, fun and extremely beneficial. We have
excellent facilitators lined up – from our very own faculty.
Advanced Connections Training Session – Tuesday, April
24, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (lunch and breaks included), in Room
#112, Haley Institute.
Please sign up for one of the following sessions by contacting
Sandra Murphy either by email at smurphy@nsac.ca or phoning
893-7900. Limited spacing is available so interested participants
should sign up early.
