NSAC Employees Honoured- Embracing
Their World
Today's honouree is Wayne Bhola, Department of Engineering.
Nominated
by Pat Nelson, Wayne is extremely essential to the smooth running
of the Engineering Department.
If something is desperately needed immediately if not sooner,
Wayne always comes through! He even joins staff in field work.
He's a super employee and he definitely deserves recognition.
Wayne is also the "Keeper of the Records." He takes
all the photos, produces the departmental newsletter and keeps
everybody's bio on file!
Wayne will always drop whatever it is he's doing to make whatever
is needed. He's one of the most essential people in the department
because he can build the things we need or fix the things that
the rest of us break.! He also has a wonderful sense of humour.
Congratulations Wayne!
If you would like to nominate a deserving employee to be recognized

Flu Clinic
Flu season is approaching! The best way to prevent flu in yourself
(and reduce the risk for vulnerable others) is to get a flu
shot each fall. If you are allergic to eggs you should not get
the flu vaccination.
There will be a Flu Clinic for faculty, staff and students
on Thursday, November 23 from 1:30 to 4:00
p.m.in the Dairy Building Boardroom; drop-in, no appointment
is necessary.
The vaccination is free to high risk individuals, $20 to all
others. While most people will fall into the "at risk"
categories, there is a $20 charge for those who do not. This
fee will be paid for by your department. Please let your supervisor
know you will be attending the clinic, especially if you are
not in one of the at-risk groups.

Wellness Challenge
Art Drysdale (Marketing, Halifax) is today's winner of the
Deputy's Challenge. Art wins a wonderful Healthy Workplace Week
thermal mug with some healthy treats tucked inside!
UPDATE! We hit 60 with our 6 additional participants! Let's
see if we can hit 65!!!! It's not too late to sign up. All it
takes is a commitment from you and an email to the Wellness
Committee saying that you want to join the challenge. It is
not necessary to let us know what you are doing, but it is appreciated
and some find it helpful.
Wellness Tip of the Day: Can sweet treats
can be made without sugar, lower calories and lower carbs and
taste good? Yes they can. Splenda has developed a brown sugar
that is excellent for making all those yummy fall and winter
treats - apple crisp or Apple Ginger Pecan Tart, pumpkin pie
or Golden Pumpkin Loaf, and chocolate toffee bars! My mouth
is watering already.
OH& S Concerns
The Safety and wellness of employees in the workplace is a priority
here at NSAC. And as such, there is a process in place for dealing
with safety concerns.
Employees should first address safety concerns with their immediate
supervisor. If the issue is not resolved, the employee then submits
the concern to their JOHS Committee, which in turn, will investigate
and follow up with the immediate supervisor until the issue is
resolved. Following this process ensures that NSAC maintains a
safe and health workplace.
Please see the OH&S website at http://www.gov.ns.ca/nsaf/ohs/
for details on the Health and Safety program.
Any questions, please contact Dr. Bernie MacDonald at bmacdonald@nsac.ca
or by phone at 893-6719
