Laurie Eagles Goes to AAFC
Please join us in thanking Ms. Laurie Eagles for the contributions
she made to research administration at NSAC over the past few
years. We will miss Laurie as she moves on to accept a new
position with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (Agri-Tech Park
Location). Laurie's last day at NSAC will be March 31, 2006.
We know many of you appreciated Laurie's help with research
proposal review and submission and she played a key role for
NSAC administration and researchers in the management of the
NSAC/Oxford AIF project. Laurie was a key player in many special

FAFU-NSAC 2+2

Professor
Claude Caldwell and Ms. Shannon Kilyanek recently updated the
campus community on NSAC’s 2+2 arrangement
with the Agricultural and Forestry University (FAFU), Fuzhou,
China. Claude and Shannon have just returned from two weeks
at FAFU, where they taught Agroecology to the first year
students and initiated the second year group in the techniques
needed
for final year project courses at NSAC. Both student groups
also received assistance with technical English and experienced
the Canadian style of teaching. Claude and Shannon met with
students, parents and staff at FAFU to answer questions on
student life in Canada and NSAC. Under this program, Chinese
students study for two years at FAFU then may transfer to
NSAC to complete the B.Sc(Agr). There are currently 8 students
from
FAFU at NSAC for the third year of their study, with more
expected for fall, 2006.

New Adjunct Professor
Professor Claude Caldwell, Dept. Plant and Animal Sciences,
has been appointed an Adjunct Professor of Fujian Agricultural
and Forestry University (FAFU) Fuzhou, P.R.China. The ceremony
took place at FAFU in late February, and recognizes the role
Professor Caldwell has played both in setting up the FAFU-NSAC
2+2 program and joint curriculum development and research in
agroecology.
