NSAC Welcomes New Dean of Research
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Robert Gordon is NSAC's new
Dean of Research. Dr. Gordon is well known on campus and across
the agricultural community for his enthusiastic leadership in
environmental engineering research, and for his promotion of
graduate student involvement and scholarship support. He is
also a Canada Research Chair, a position that he will continue
to hold through his term as Dean.
I encourage you to join me in welcoming Rob to his new role,
and to contact him with any questions you have regarding research
issues at NSAC.

Thank You to Scholarship Presenters
The Awards Office would like to thank individuals who have
represented NSAC at high school graduation ceremonies this week.
On Wednesday evening, June 21, Dr. Nigel Firth presented an
Atlantic Scholar Award to Robyn Taylor at Miramichi Valley High
School. Robyn plans to pursue our Pre Vet program in September.
Dr. Raj Lada attended graduation ceremonies on Friday evening,
June 23, at Kensington Intermediate Senior High School where
he presented Shawn Loo with an Atlantic Scholar Award. Shawn
will enter the B. Sc.(Agr.) Environmental Sciences program in
the fall. Dr. Lada also participated in the presentation of
Agriculture Program Certificates at Kensington.
As well, NSAC alumnus Nick Dillman (Class of 2001) and Robyn
Dillman (Class of 2002) attended a ceremony in Deer Lake where
they presented an Atlantic Scholar Award to Jessica Roberts.
Pre Vet studies are the focus for Jessica in September. Nick
replied that our prize was the highest award presented for the
evening and that it was an honour to represent NSAC.
Brian Crouse attended the graduation at Kinkora Regional High
School in PEI on Monday evening, June 19, and presented certificates
to the students who were graduating from the Agriculture Certificate
Program – a program NSAC’s Faculty Council has endorsed.
Cricket Anyone?
The ESL Summer Science Camp has begun! This month, we are hosting
nine young men from India, and they would like to teach you
Cricket. If you go to Agritech Park any given evening within
the next few weeks, you’ll definitely see them playing
the game and they would like you to share in their fun. So,
On Tuesday, June 27th at 6:30pm, the students invite you to
come and play! The rain date is the following evening, same
time.
See you there!

Stroll into Summer
Since June is Recreation Month, and the Department and in fact
the whole of government has made a commitment to a healthy workplace,
we are holding a "STROLL INTO SUMMER" walk on Tuesday
June 27 at 10 am.
Dr. Hicks is supporting the healthy workplace walk and will
be sponsoring refreshments for participants in the Alumni Gardens
at the end of the walk, (Cumming Hall if weather does not cooperate).
We hope you will encourage participation by members of your
department . Those who regularly take the break period to do
a 15 minute walk will confirm , it is a great way to stay alert
and focused throughout the day. Although this one may take a
few more minutes (with the refreshments) it will be a good investment
in productivity!
Recruitment Update
What an exciting week! We’ve been working on many activities
that are geared toward bringing several diverse groups to campus
- ESL science students from India, the Regional Teacher’s
In-service, the Guidance Counselor’s In-service, and more...
Last week, we met with Renee Garbs and Janet Walker, who will
be representing NSAC at the CanAM Equine Emporium this weekend
and provided them with a presentation and promotional material.
Thanks ladies!
Another event that NSAC attended was the EBI. Thanks Gail and
Fraser for setting up a booth and taking materials.
Also, Brian, Craig and I hosted an open forum discussion on
recruitment - thanks to all who attended. We look forward to
planning our schedule for 2006/2007.
Futureworx came for a two hour tour, which consisted of all
of our main areas. The group was quite impressed with the campus
and very interested in our programs.
Last Tuesday, we had the opportunity to host 10 Economic Development
Officers from Russia here on campus, accompanied by two translators
and members of CORDA. The purpose of their visit was to learn
about business linkages with research and international project
work. An interesting benefit to recruitment from this visit
was the keen interest that one of the translators saw in NSAC
as a destination for international students (she also runs an
education agency). Coincidentally, on the same day, I received
a call from Moscow and spoke to a student interested in completing
his B. Sc. here at NSAC and eventually take his M. Sc. in Agronomy.
Hope you have a great long weekend!
Monica

in a future E-Bulletin,please forward your photograph submission

photograph if applicable.

The amphitheater dedication, which was held on Friday, was
a success as the class of 1944 and many people from across campus
were in attendance. Despite the forecast of rain, the weather
held off for the event which was followed by refreshments in
the MacRae Library.
