NSAC Foundation Reports Excellent
Year
The directors of the NSAC Foundation held their annual meeting
on June 28th and approved the financial statements that were
presented. Fund raising efforts for the year 2005-06 took the
Foundation and the NSAC to the next level as significant gains
were made in both donations and total fund balance held by the
Foundation. The following table show how far we have come in
the last six years and is an indication of the hard work of
many on campus, as well as the level of support that NSAC enjoys
in the community. Thanks to everyone. We look forward to continued
growth in 2006-07.

Friend of NSAC Dies
We are sad to note that Dr. Charles Albert Eaves, Wolfville
Nursing Home, formerly of Upper Canard, Kings Co., passed away
July 2nd, 2006.
On October 25th, 2000, he received an Honorary Doctorate from
Nova Scotia Agricultural College in recognition of his over
40 years of fruit storage research with the Canada Department
of Agriculture. He was a pioneer in research on Controlled Atmosphere
Storage and the effect of mineral nutrition on post-harvest
quality. Dr. Eaves was a major contributor to the NSAC and had
set up the Canard Conservation Trust Fund to provide a graduate
and an undergraduate scholarship each year for students of Kings
County focusing on environmental studies related to agricultural
practices.
Visiting Colleagues from Ethiopia
NSAC would like to take this opportunity to welcome four visitors
from the Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary
Medicine (JUCAVM) in Ethiopia to our campus.
Mr. Solomon Demeke (Animal Science Department), Mr. Duguma
Adugna (Dean of JUCAVM, Plant Science Department), Mr. Nigussie
Kassa (Horticulture Department), and Dr. Feyesa Regassa (School
of Veterinary Medicine) will be on campus for a five week period,
beginning July 8th, in association with the “Agricultural
Sustainability- Ethiopia” Project. While here, our colleagues
will be taking part in training sessions featuring the expertise
of various members of NSAC’s faculty and staff; touring
local agricultural facilities, events and businesses, as well
as exploring the general agricultural atmosphere of Canada’s
Maritime region.
The project is funded in part by the Government of Canada through
the Canadian International Development Agency’s Canadian
Colleges Partnership Program. Substantial contributions are
also made by NSAC and JUCAVM.
For further information, please contact Kendra Mellish at NSAC

, double click on a title and print off the form. Or, students
can drop by the Awards Office located at 11 River Road, lower
level.
We are currently promoting those awards with July 28, 2006
deadlines. Other awards have fall 2006 deadlines.
Application Numbers Update
The Recruitment and Registry staff are happy to report that
application numbers are continuing to run ahead of last year's
numbers. In addition, the numbers of students who have paid
deposits is up nine percent from this time last year, which
is a good sign for our expected numbers for September.
We particularly want to recognize and celebrate the number
of outstanding students we've attracted from CEC this year.
Much is being made of the significant number of CEC grads this
year going to both Memorial University and Mount Allison University.
Applicant numbers and confirmations and scholarship students
from CEC are at all time highs. This year we have had 53 applications
with CEC backgrounds — 35 are coming directly from the
2006 graduating class, 18 of which are scholarship recipients.
