STLHE and SoTL . . . Just What Have We
Joined?
Meet your colleagues on Thursday, August 31 from 2-4 pm, in
Cox 262 to find out!
Nova Scotia Agricultural College has become a Founding Institutional
Member of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.
Its website describes the society as "A community of teaching
scholars dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning in
higher education."
Since 1981, STLHE has shown leadership in higher education,
advocating for teaching excellence and to advancing the Scholarship
of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
This session will make sense of the alphabet soup by expanding
the abbreviations, parsing the definitions, and giving examples
of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
The presenter, Eileen Herteis, is Director of the Purdy Crawford
Teaching Centre at Mount Allison University. Eileen is the NB,
NL, and PEI regional representative for the society and its
membership coordinator.
Time to get our heads back into the teaching mode, and this
will give you a good start for the year. See you there!
Presented by the Instructional Development Committee.

NSAC Enjoys Largest Influx of
International Students
NSAC is welcoming one of the largest influxes of international
students to its university this Fall. Twenty-three students
have arrived on the Bible Hill campus over the past week including
students from China, Norway, Mexico, Japan and Rwanda.
"Internationalization has been a priority at NSAC in recent
years as often the first opportunity one receives in life to
be exposed to people from diverse cultural backgrounds, religions
and languages is when one attends university," said NSAC
President Dr. Philip Hicks. "A key role for universities
in today’ s complex and war-torn world is to equip our
students with a level of cross-cultural understanding and sophistication
of viewpoint which will allow them to deal with today’s
issues in a fair and open way," he continued. "I am
delighted to see our efforts at NSAC to internationalize be
rewarded by this large incoming class from abroad." Complete
