Scotia Pool News
Are you seeking cool ways to exercise? Consider aquatic fitness.
The natural resistance of water provides a great workout. In addition,
water play is great for cushioning your joints from impact.
Hydro Kick boxing - Do you love the workout that
cardio kickboxing gives? Like its on-land counterpart, aquatic
kickboxing uses jabs, uppercuts and front and side-kicks to burn
calories and increase strength. A shallow water, high cardio workout
combining the elements of water aerobics, kick boxing, and boxing
into a higher intensity workout. A great stress reliever.
These classes are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:00
- 8:00 pm. Drop in Fee for NSAC Students $3.00 (with proof of
ID card); Non-students $5.50.
Also we have added another Aqua Size class to our regular schedule.
Tuesday and Friday evenings from 5 - 6 pm. for those who cannot
join us during the day. Drop in Fee for NSAC Students $3.00; Non-students
$5.50.
Booking of NSAC Resources starts to
move on-line
With the implementation of GroupWise, we can now begin to make
on-line bookings for things such as cars, rooms and projectors.
The first of these resources to do this are the Admin Car, Admin
projector and the President's Boardroom.
To make a booking you just need to do a "busy search"
(like you would for a person) for the time you want to book one
of the resources (AdminCar, AdminProjector and PresBrdm are found
in the address book) and if it is available, you select the appointment
date and duration. You will get an email confirmation that it
is booked.
Theresa Blois is responsible for the car and the boardroom, Joanne
Jordan for the projector and as such, will continue to monitor
the bookings. If for some reason they have to cancel the booking,
you will be notified.
If you have any questions on making appointments, using busy searching
or other features of GroupWise, please contact the Helpdesk. Training
and trouble shooting is still available.
You may expect other resources to come on-line over time.
Come Out to the Career Fair!!
Students, Staff and Faculty are all encouraged to come out to
the Career Fair this week being held on Wednesday afternoon in
the Athletic Centre, 1 - 4 pm. A wide range of industry representatives
will spend the day providing some good career advise to our students.
Its important that faculty and staff encourage students to attend
and make it easy for students to attend (if you have Wednesday
afternoon classes or labs). The Career Fair is a career education
event not a job fair.
The Career Services Office staff appreciates the support of staff
and faculty who can ensure students arrive with appropriate expectations.
It's an excellent opportunity for students to learn about the
world of work today, to learn about job searching and networking.
First year students can learn a lot about options available to
them following a program of study at NSAC as well as some summer
job leads. Final year students can use the event as a springboard
for their job search for next spring. The company representatives
gain by learning more about NSAC and our programs of study. Faculty
and staff are a big help here by meeting with the exhibitors,
many which are alumni, to learn more about the training needs
of prospective employers of our students. High school students
have been invited to the Career Fair. Its a perfect opportunity
for a student considering studying at NSAC to become more familiar
with the employment destinations of our various programs of study.
The Career Services Office staff have been advised of a van load
of grade 12 students coming from Kinkora and Kensington high schools
in PEI. Other individual students and their families will visit
the fair as well. We'll see you at Career Fair '05!!

Yuk Yuks - International Stand-up Comedy comes
to NSAC
Get your tickets early!
As you've probably heard by now Yuk Yuks International Stand-up
Comedy is coming to NSAC on Friday, October 14th, 2005.
Plan to spend the night yuking it up in the NSAC Alumni Theatre.
Yuk Yuks offers comedy that never fails to generate laughter
and this two-man show, featuring Chuck Byrn promises to deliver.
Tickets are just 10 dollars and are available at MacQuarrie's
Pharmasave Esplanade and the NSAC Athletic Centre Equipment
Room.
They are called Beolach
Beolach( A gaelic word meaning lively youth) is also one of
Cape Breton's most exciting new young bands. The group performs
an energetic mix of Cape Breton, Scottish and Irish tunes featuring
piano, pipes, whistles, guitar and two fiddles and will be at
the NSAC Alumni Theatre on Saturday, October 15th, 2005.
Beolach has thrilled audiences with spirited performances,
witty presentations and versatile step-dancing. They remove
Cape Breton tunes from their usual fiddle/piano context and
present them with the renewed energy of a young five-piece band.
While they perform within a contemporary style, Beolach maintains
a great respect for and understanding of, traditional cape Breton
music.
Beolach is Patrick Gillis (guitar) Mairi Rankin ( fiddle) Mac
Morin ( piano) Wendy MacIsaac (fiddle) Ryan J. MacNeil ( pipes/Whistles.)
Their latest recording is their newly released 2004 album "Variations".
At just $15, Tickets are moving fast. You can purchase your
tickets at MacQuarrie's Pharmasave Esplanade and the NSAC Athletic
Centre Equipment Room.
