2005 United Way Campaign
It’s that time of year again when the NSDAF and NSAC
join forces to launch our annual United Way Campaign. This year,
we’ll have a jam packed 3-day event, beginning Tuesday,
November 1 to Thursday, November 3. The following is a list
of events we’ve planned so far:
Tuesday - Kick-off Luncheon, complete with entertainment and
silent auction.
Wednesday - We’ll be playing Internet Bingo.
Thursday - Bake Sale
Many events will lead up to November 1, including the Sods
and Cods Golf Tournament, Book Sale, Adirondack Chair Ticket
Raffle and watch for tickets on a 50/50 Draw with a "Twist".
We need your help! Items are required for our silent auction.
If you would like to make a donation to our silent auction,
an item, service, something from a company you deal with or
whatever, please contact any of the following United Way Committee:
Joe Calder (6549) Claire Hanlon-Smith (4491) Rick Hoeg (6577)
Carol Elliott (6506) Kim Harris (6555) Michael Langman (6557)
Lynn Faulkner (5943) Darlene McCallum (7076) Sean O’Toole
(7473
Alan Grant (6579) Tracey Mitchell (6370)
Most importantly, I encourage all staff to consider making
a pledge to the United Way Campaign, either as a one time contribution
or through payroll deduction. More details to follow.
Look for all details in our newsletter.
Sincerely,
Joe Calder,
2005 NSDAF United Way Coordinator
Calling all entertainers...We need your
help!
The DAF-NSAC United Way Committee are looking for entertainers
to perform at the Kick-Off Luncheon and Silent Auction on Tuesday,
November 1, 2005.
If you sing, play the piano, guitar, kazoo or any other instrument...if
you can juggle, dance, or maybe you've been practicing to be
a mime or have been working on a comedy routine...we're inviting
you to perform for a good cause. You can perform solo, or better
yet, experiment with putting together a fusion act. How about
Nigil Firth and his accordion, Bruce Currie on his guitar and
Beth Hingley on trumpet? or George MacIntosh and his bag pipes
with Kris Pruski on the piano, accompanied by Laurie Sandeson
on vocals? or who won't enjoy hearing the Riverview Jug Band
or the Water Tower Crystal Quartet. Perform one song or two
or maybe a medley of greatest hits, the choice is yours. All
DAF staff and NSAC staff and students are welcomed to perform.
Let's have some fun. If you're interested in helping out for
a good cause while at the same time entertaining your work mates,
please contact me either by phone (893-6579) or by e-mail (grantac@gov.ns.ca)
or in person, Room 210 Harlow Institute before Friday, October
28.
Alan (the Donald K Donald of the NSAC-DAF United Way Campaign)

The NSAC Noticeboard has been Replaced
In an effort to be more efficient and allow for more flexibility
in posting of campus notices and message, the NSAC Noticeboard
is being replaced by the self-serve NSAC Noticeboard and Message
Forum.
People wishing to post notices may do so by registering for
an account. The posts are open for everyone on the Internet
to read but only those registered will be able to post messages.
Accounts will be given to anyone with an NSAC e-mail account
who registers. A registration approval process by the board
administers is necessary to prevent unauthorized use and spam,
Approval time will generally be less than 24 hours. Posters
will be able to modify and delete their own posts.
This new Noticeboard and Message Forum greatly expands the
possibility for communication within NSAC. We’ll run the
forum as a trial and then make changes and add categories as
we need to. You will find the new NSAC Noticeboard and Message
Forum at http://nsac.ca/forums/

Colchester Immigration Partnership
Dear NSAC Students and Faculty,
The Colchester Immigration Partnership is currently looking
for volunteers to host or assist with their Multicultural Cooking
Series which takes place on a monthly basis in the Atlantic
Superstore Community Room.
The Cooking Series provides participants with a fun and unique
cultural experience. Participants are exposed to a new culture
through music, performances and displays. Each session is hosted
by a volunteer from the community who is originally from or
has ties to a country outside of Canada. The host is responsible
for:
Providing the Atlantic Superstore with 4 menu items (one appetizer,
2 main course dishes and one dessert) one week before the event,
assisting with the preparation of the food, demonstrating to
participants how the food is prepared and talking about their
country and culture
The Colchester Immigration Partnership is a community based
volunteer group comprised of representatives from the Colchester
Regional Development Agency and academic, government and business
agencies. One of its goals is to give citizens of Colchester
a better understanding of the various cultures that they have
or will come in contact with in their day to day lives.
If you are interested in hosting or assisting with the Multicultural
Cooking Series, please contact me. Also, feel free to contact
me if you have any questions. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Creston Rudolph
