NSAC and the Maritime Fall Fair
The Maritime Fall Fair has agreed to help sponsor NSAC students
in upcoming judging competitions in exchange, our NSAC Judging Team
will host a "Groom and Show" training program for children.
The training program will consist of at least two daily session
detailing how to properly groom livestock. Children will be able
to learn more about and interact with various show animals such
as cattle, horses and sheep under the tutelage of the NSAC Team.
The Maritime Fall Fair will be held October 7th - 16th,
2005 - Bringing Country to the City
Centennial 2005
NSAC is proud to be celebrating its Centennial throughout
2005. There are lots of exciting events planned to acknowledge the
occasion. Plan to participate and attend as many as you can.
NSAC Heritage Contest The NSAC Centennial Heritage
Contest wraps up today with the presentation of prizes at the anniversary
party on February 14th. If you have not already turned your five
completed question sets in, please do so by the end of day today.

An official opening of Colchester Historical Museum
and a celebration of NSAC’s 100 years is being planned for
3:00 pm on Friday, February 4,
at the museum. Special guests and entertainment will be featured
and visitors can enjoy refreshments as they review the materials
and meet with NSAC and museum personalities during a wine and cheese
reception.
The exhibit continues at the museum, 29 Young Street, Truro, until
March 25.
Book Launch The NSAC Library officially launches
- “An Index to A. Dale Ells’ ‘Shaped Through Service:
an illustrated history of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College’
“ by Janelle L. Brenton, MacRae Library cataloguer, on
February 4th. The project began as a professional development
exercise when Janelle signed up for a distance education program
that would qualify her as a professional indexer. After graduating
from Saint Mary’s University in 1986, Janelle completed a
two-year Library Technician course with the Nova Scotia Community
College in 1989. After gaining cataloguing experience at Saint Mary’s
University Patrick Power Library, she was hired at the MacRae Library
in 1992 . We selected Dale Ells’ wonderful history of the
NSAC as an indexing project that would provide a lasting benefit
to the NSAC community and also facilitate the work of the Library’s
reference librarians. The official launch is the opening of the
NSAC Centennial Exhibit, February 4, 2005, 3:00 - 4:00 pm
at the Colchester Historical Museum on Young Street, in Truro. Everyone
is welcome.
Founding Day, February 14th, 2005 marks the official
anniversary of NSAC and we will be unveiling a special commemorative
postage stamp in conjunction with Canada Post. The campus community
is invited to take part in this most prestigious occasion. Please
see your official invitation and RSVP
at your earliest convenience.
Anniversary Party The campus community is invited
to our official anniversary party on the afternoon of February
14th 3:00 p.m. in the upper foyer of Cumming Hall. There
will be a cash bar, anniversary cake and other finger foods. A highlight
of the event will be the world premiere of our Centennial song,
written and performed by singer/songwriter Barry Stagg.
NSAC Chorale In celebration of the 100 year anniversary
of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, the NSAC Chorale is presenting
'An Evening of Musical Theatre' on Tuesday, February 15th
at 7:00 p.m.
in the Alumni Theatre. Tickets are $5 adults, $3 students/seniors.
There is free admission for AC students with I.D. All tickets sold

Time Capsule The NSAC Centennial Committee is
also producing a Centennial Time Capsule that will hold various
memorabilia related to the NSAC and its Centennial over the next
year. The Capsule will be added to throughout 2005 and will be on
display for viewing at the MacRae Library. Keep posted for more
details.
Centennial Products Many promotional products
have been produced to mark our Centennial. Tumblers, coasters, bookmarks,
mugs, lapel pins and much more. There will also be products related
to our postage stamp. Please check out the NSAC Bookstore for more
information and to make your purchase.
Science Fair Judges
Required
North River Elementary School is preparing for their annual Science
Fair, to be held on February 17th from 12:45 p.m- 3:00 p.m.
NSAC students who are interested in participating in the Fair as
judges are asked to contact Debbie Mellish, dmellish@nsac.ns.ca,
for information.
Bible Hill Junior High School is also preparing for their school
fair (March 1, 2005) and the Regional Science Fair (March 30, 2005).
Judges are needed for both events. Those interested in being judges
are asked to contact Jill Rogers jrogers@nsac.ns.ca.
Food For Fines: Truro
Food Bank Benefits From Library Fines
February 1-10, 2005 you can reduce or clear your
library fines at participating Novanet libraries - with food! Participating
libraries include: AST, DAL, DALTECH, MSVU,NSAC, NSCAD, NSCC, SMU,
STFX, UCCB and KINGS. For every non-perishable food item donated,
NSAC Library Services will reduce your library fine by $2, to a
maximum of $20. All food donations will be given to the TRURO FOOD
BANK. Just bring your donations of canned goods or other non-perishable
foods to the NSAC Library or any of the participating libraries
during regular hours. Cash accepted as well! This is a win-win initiative
- good for Libraries, good for the Food Bank - good for YOU! All
food donations are welcome (even if you don’t have fines!)

News from the Road
University Day is only four weeks away! So mark Friday February
25th in your calendar! We hope to have great involvement
from the campus again this year, as the recruitment of new students
is such an important activity for all of us at NSAC. So I hope that
you will all consider making an important contribution to our biggest
recruitment endeavor of the year. We are looking for enthusiastic
students to help with tours and talk with students. So if you would
like to get in touch with prospective students just email us at

Part of the event will include an information EXPO where students
can learn all about the campus and what is available to them as
a student here. If you would like to participate in the information
EXPO by displaying your program, service, or club please contact

We would like to recognize the efforts of individuals on campus
who have been active in promoting NSAC this past week. NSAC displays
and materials were made available by NSAC staff and faculty at the
following conferences: New Brunswick Federation of Agriculture (Lauranne
Sanderson), Scotia Hort Congress (Norman Goodyear) and a Nova Scotia
Aquaculture conference (AJ Vink). Thanks to all of you who take
the opportunity to help spread information about NSAC.
NSAC Winter Carnival
The NSAC Winter Carnival Committee presented its third annual Variety
Show Friday evening in the Alumni Theatre. Many talented acts graced
the stage. The NSAC Administration/Senior management team was one
of them. It's act highlighted the changes in entertainment and music
over the past 100 years. Take a look at their very professional
performance.
