MacRae Library Update
Two collections, the Sheep & Wool Archives (Edith Zillig
Sheep Fonds) and the Co-operatives Council of Nova Scotia Archives
were sorted, inventoried and processed. A “finding tool”
that describes the organization and lists the contents of each
archive was written, published in print and posted to the Web
site of the MacRae Library, along with a digital exhibit with
photos of interesting artifacts in each collection.
This successful project was the outcome of a collaboration between
the sheep producers associations of the province, the Nova Scotia
Co-operative Council, and the NSAC MacRae Library, with funding
from HRDC (Human Resource Development Canada). Cathy MacDonald,
a native of Lockport, N.S. and a recent graduate of the Dalhousie
University School of Library and Information Studies, with experience
and training in archive work, completed the hands-on work.

Plantation Agriculture in German East Africa: Struggles
Over Labour and Production
German colonialism introduced plantations as the 'modern' way

resistance from Africans in ways that both Africanized colonial
plantations and eventually led to a shift towards small-scale
African commodity production.
