NSAC Attracts
National Scholarship Recipients
Last year NSAC joined the consortium of colleges who are members
of the Garfield Weston Merit Foundation for Colleges (GWMFC). For
the first time we have attracted two national scholarship recipients
through this program. National Scholars receive $8,000 renewable
scholarships plus have their tuition fees waived at the college
of their choice. We are pleased that Tim House of Stephenville,
NL and Marissa Lynch, Kinkora, PEI, are two of this year’s
GWMFC National Scholars who have chosen to study at NSAC. Ashley
Tozer, Antigonish, NS, was the recipient of a Regional Level scholarship
through this program.
Garfield Weston Merit Scholarships are Canada’s most prestigious
and valuable undergraduate scholarships for colleges; selecting
and rewarding talented students who demonstrate service to the community,
leadership potential, entrepreneurial energy as well as academic
excellence.
Through the financial support of the W. Garfield Weston Foundation,
each of the 43 National scholars, selected from every province in
Canada, receives $8,000 annually and up to $3,500 in summer enrichment
funding over the duration of their program. Garfield Weston Merit
Scholarship National Scholars are also supported by 45 top Canadian
colleges who generously waive tuition fees for study on their campuses.
In addition to the 43 national scholarships offered in 2004, 27
regional scholarship winners will receive a one-time award of $4,000,
while 22 provincial scholars will each receive a one-time award
of $2,500.
