July 5, 2004 --- Week 186
The Summer Traffic Blues
Ah, summer. The sun, the flowers, the road construction?! As you
are all aware the water system construction has been ongoing and
is now moving to span the bottom portion of College Road and the
portion of Vimy Road between Pictou and College. NSAC has volunteered
a part of one of the parking lota on College Road (The Woodsmen's
practice area) as a holding area for several tons of gravel. The
lot will be half operational for the next week or and motorists
will still be able to park in the rear of the lot. The lot is expected
to be back to normal (with some of the bumps smoothed out) by July
9th. In the meantime, traffic will be limited to one-lane on the
bottom portion of College Road and on Vimy Road. It is best to avoid
the whole issue by using Pictou Road to access NSAC.
Poetry Comes to NSAC
Attention all poetry lovers! There are some special readings taking
place in Truro this week. Poet and writer Bill Bissett with guest
Carol Malyon will be on location at NSAC this Friday July 9th in
the Douglas Room, Cumming Hall. His style anti-conventional, Bissett
is well known for his lively readings which incorporate sound poetry,
chanting, singing, rattles, and a host of other engaging elements.
Carol Malyon, an accomplished poet and writer, has expressed her
awesome talent in the heart of her short stories, and humor in her
amusing children’s tale of two very mixed up grandmas. The
reading at NSAC will take place at noon time and all are welcome.
There is an additional reading featuring Carol Malyon with guest
Bill Bissett on Thursday night, July 8th at the Colchester-East
Hants Public Library on Prince Street in Truro. The reading will
take place at 7:30 pm, and the public is invited. For more information
about these readings, contact Sondra Mantle at smantle@nsac.ns.ca
or Daphne Cragg at the Truro Library at dcragg@nstc.library.ns.ca.

NSAC to Host Teaching
Showcase
The Association
of Atlantic Universities (AAU) has honored NSAC by awarding
us the opportunity to host The Teaching Showcase for 2005. This
showcase to be held on a Saturday in the latter weeks of October
2005 and it is an exciting opportunity for university faculty from
the Atlantic region and beyond to exchange ideas, strategies, and
methods in an open and professional learning environment. Typically
100-150 delegates from the graduate student level to full professors
attend to take advantage of the many diverse presentations available
at the Showcase. NSAC and its Instructional Development Committee
are excited and looking ahead to a bright and successful weekend
for the university and practitioners alike. If you'd like some more
information, contact Graham
Pearson. Otherwise, stay tuned for more information!

Are you interested in knowing what the Development and Alumni Relations
