News From the Road
It has been a busy week for the recruitment team!
Brian Carruthers spent the week visiting with high school students
in Connecticut, and despite a flat tire and an unfortunate David
Letterman cancellation, has returned safely to Truro. Brian was
impressed with the great amount of interest from students, and brought
back information from 29 prospective students. We’d like to
thank Kevin McDavid who accompanied Brian, and acted as a fabulous
ambassador and navigator! Craig also had a successful week in the
Saint John and Sussex area, speaking with many enthusiastic students.
NSAC had a presence at a university fair in Norway, with former
student Orri Johansson serving as overseas representative. While
the fair didn’t attract as many students as hoped, Orri did
a fantastic job representing us. Thanks! Another thank-you goes
out to Lori Reeves, who met with Guidance Counsellors at Northumberland
Regional High School and North Nova Education Centre, both new high
schools in Pictou.
On Sunday we were excited to host 70 4-H students on campus. Students
took part in lab sessions generously put on by Judy Grant and Gerry
Russell, Merridy Rankin, Jean Lynds and Margie Hartling, and Gary
Wallace and three AST students: Aimee Daigle, Josh Gorham and Katherine
Milton. The 4-H students also enjoyed a welcome by Dr. Hicks, and
enthusiastic NSAC students provided a panel discussion on their
experiences at NSAC and their involvement with 4-H. Thanks to all
of our students who came out on an early Sunday morning: Amy Higgins,
Beth Trueman, Jillian Cudmore, David Brennan, Julie MacDonald, Sarah
Lowe, Lauren Johnson, and Mila MacLean. We had great feedback on
the tour and discussion, and we all left a very good impression
with these students. Thanks again to everyone!
Plans for University Day are coming together quickly, and we have
received 36 registration forms to date. While we have heard from
many areas of campus, we are anxious to hear from some program and
service areas. If you are planning to be involved, in either the
program tours or the EXPO, I’d ask that you get in touch with
us, or return to us the Program and/or Exhibitors forms.
