25 year Pins Awarded
A total of seventeen staff members of the Department of Agricultural and Fisheries,
of which nine were NSAC staff, were presentation of citations by Minister of
Agriculture Chris d'Entremont at the NSDAF Office in recognition of 25 years
of employment with the province. Special pins and congratulations were given
by
Premier John Hamm at the
World Trade & Convention Centre. The nine NSAC staff are:

Organic Opportunities: A Prairie Perspective
In 2001, more than 1000 prairie producers grew certified organic products.
The organic community on the prairies is growing, in numbers of producers,
processors and consumers, and in economic and scientific credibility. We will
examine some of the opportunities and challenges for research in this dynamic
environment.
Presenter: Dr. Brenda Frick
Brenda Frick, Ph.D., P.Ag., is the Prairie Coordinator for the Organic Agriculture
Centre of Canada, located in the College of Agriculture at the University of
Saskatchewan. Her background is in weed ecology.

News from the Road
NSAC enjoyed another successful High School Introductory Program last week,
with 47 students choosing to spend a day on our campus. These days were jam-packed,
with students touring campus, meeting with advisors, dining at Chartwells,
talking with NSAC students and participating in some great labs, including
anatomy, plant tissue culture, entomology, consumer behaviour, physics, DNA
fingerprinting, and microbiology. Students were from all over the Maritimes,
and were interested in a wide range of programs. The following indicates
the number of students per program that attended our two-week program:
