Clients 8 and 9 and International Exposure! By Sarah Morris Development at AgriTECH Park is proceeding nicely as we enter 1999. We have recruited two exceptional companies who offer services to assist entrepreneurs in growing their companies. In addition to developing their own companies, these two consulting firms will add value to our already nurturing entrepreneurial environment. Shortly before Christmas we recruited our 8th client company, Ibis Research (Atlantic). It is an independent competitive/business intelligence provider to regional, national and international clients. The company offers consulting and training services through project investigations, structured data and intelligence analytical techniques, seminars, workshops and on-site guidance. Specific services include technology evaluations, competitor profiling, trend analysis, market assessments, benchmarking, forecasting and more. For more information, please see their web site at www.ibisresearch.com. Shortly after Christmas we recruited client number nine, Team Management Development Co-Operative Ltd. This firm is set up as a co-operative, with seven experienced owner/managers. Each comes with specific experience as an entrepreneur, upper level manager or experienced consultant. The company is targeting new and small business, community economic development projects and other co-operatives. Their services include project consulting, strategic planning, training and skills development and off-site and on-site mentoring. Team Management can be contacted at 902-896-7261 for more information. Our big news on the promotional front is that AgriTECH Park and our partner corporation, InNOVAcorp were highlighted recently in an international publication, Expansion Management. The article, entitled Canadian Biotech: The Sky is the Limit, highlights Nova Scotia's growing leadership role in Canadian biotech, extraordinary support of government, a strong research sector and a ‘can do' attitude. InNOVAcorp's Life Sciences Industry Partnership is mentioned in its self-directed role of doubling the size of the biotech, medical devices and IT sectors over the next three years, as they relate to the biosciences. AgriTECH Park is mentioned as a move towards the province's specialization in the biotech sector in its development and proximity to the NSAC. Nova Scotia's most important advantage is listed as this: a 1997 Ernst & Young study calculated the after-tax cost of $100 of R&D in Nova Scotia to be $32.93. Great news for anyone involved in such costly research! If anyone would like a copy of the article, please send requests to lgable@agritechpark.com or call 902-896-7275. AgriTECH Park continues to negotiate with five agricultural technology companies for space at our facilities. The family continues to grow!
