NSAC Faculty member recognized for achievement in internationalization
Long time faculty member Dr. Claude Caldwell is the 2011 recipient of the university’s award for Achievement in Internationalization.
Recognized internationally by various universities, Dr. Caldwell has been involved in almost every aspect of internationalizing the NSAC campus since first joining its faculty in 1983.
“I try to have a positive effect on one person at a time. I sincerely believe that NSAC is better for it, Canada is better for it and the world will be a better place for my grandchildren if I continue to do what NSAC International has been doing for years - making a difference.”
Dr. Caldwell spends countless hours mentoring international students and sharing his knowledge and expertise with international colleagues. He has modeled cultural sensitivity and encouraged and assisted members of the NSAC community to develop or enhance their own cross-cultural skills while also encouraging domestic students to gain international experience. He has made substantial contributions to curriculum development as part of NSAC’s international development work in nine different countries.
“In Dr. Caldwell’s case, ‘achievement’ is a bit of an understatement. Since joining NSAC in 1983, Dr. Caldwell has been involved in almost every conceivable aspect of internationalizing our campus. His international activities have earned him acclaim around the world. I am pleased that he has been selected by a committee of his peers and students for this honour,” said Dr. Nancy Pitts, Associate Professor and Director of Internationalization, NSAC.

With a strong commitment to the long-term sustainability of international partnerships, Dr. Caldwell played a pivotal role in the development of an Academic Articulation Agreement providing for mobility of students between the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) in China and NSAC.
This articulation agreement has transformed the student body and international student cohort at NSAC. Last year saw NSAC’s international student enrolment reach an all-time high of 188 students or 19 per cent of overall enrolment.
The Achievement in Internationalization Award will be presented to Dr. Caldwell for his vision, leadership and undying commitment to the many aspects of internationalizing the NSAC campus at an event later this month.
NSAC is a specialized university that cultivates learning and research, focusing on improving and sustaining our environment for the health and well-being of society.
