Harvest the
Wind – a wind energy workshop for Nova Scotia
landowners
Are you a Nova Scotia landowner interested in responsible
wind energy development? Have you wondered whether your land
or community is suitable for a small, medium or large wind
turbine?
The Ecology Action Centre along with Nova Scotia Agricultural
College (NSAC) is offering a free one-day workshop, Harvest
the Wind, April 23 on the university’s campus which will
provide information to people who are interested in installing
wind turbines on their property or leasing land to wind developers,
on a small, medium or large scale.
“This is like Wind Energy 101 for landowners,” said
Wayne Groszko, Renewable Energy Coordinator, Ecology Action
Centre. “You may be thinking about harvesting wind energy
on your land. This is an opportunity to learn the basics.”
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about how
wind energy works, how to determine the suitability of land
for wind energy, what you need to consider to install and operate
a small, medium or large wind turbine and how to negotiate
land leases with wind energy companies to use your land for
wind turbines. The workshop is open to the public, even if
you don’t own land now and municipal or community representatives
may also find it useful.
Speakers from Nova Scotia Power, Nova Scotia Agricultural
College, Sou'wester Explorations, Scotian Windfields, the Eskasoni
Wind Energy Project and the Ecology Action Centre will be on
hand. You can find more information at www.nsac.ca/wind.
