NSERC Student Research Awards given at NSAC
Six NSAC students have been awarded Undergraduate
Student Research Awards (USRA) from the Natural Sciences and
Engineering Research Council (NSERC) for the summer of 2010.
The awards, valued at a minimum of $4500 each, are intended
to stimulate an interest in research in the natural sciences
or engineering as well as encourage students to undertake graduate
studies and pursue a research career in these fields.
"NSAC believes that one person can make a difference
and these prestigious awards will allow six of our best students
to contribute
to national research programs that will ultimately impact the
industry in the areas of food, water and the environment,” said
NSAC Vice President Research, Extension and Outreach Dr. Richard
Donald. ‘We are very proud of these students and very
appreciative to NSERC for this opportunity.”
The awards are applied over four months and typically employ
students throughout the summer. The recipients must have
maintained a cumulative average of at least a B or 70 per
cent over their past years of study.
The students are supervised by NSERC research grant holders.
Supervisors supplement the value of the student's award as
well as provide the student with direction, facilities and
resources for the research project.
The winners are Nadine Brooks, Sackville, NB; Sara Brewster,
Miramichi, NB; Kenton McNutt, Valley, NS; Ernest, Dickson,
Truro, NS; Stephanie Peach, Shubenacadie, NS; and Lori Balderston,
North Wiltshire, PE.
